I wanted to get everyone's opinion on these pistons. I know a lot of people consider them a budget piston, but from my research they hold up just as well as some of the pricier options.

I've never heard of a Wiseco pistons (or any other piston for that matter) completely failing with these built engines. I've also heard many opinions on how much these pistons will hold, from 500whp or less to 600whp at least. Can I hear back from some actual users as well?

Btw, is it worth the investment to get Ceramic Moly Piston Coating on any pistons I get?

 

i got them and i am happy

 

I have them and happy. They are forged pistons, not really budget so to speak. Used in many supra builds exceeding 800+rwhp. Oh and proper install/tune is key..

 

They are a great piston, you shouldn't be worried about using them.

What about the ceramic moly coating?

 

Its a good idea, if you can afford it do it. I had my piston tops and skirts coated, along with my bearings.

The coating on the bearing and piston skirts provides a smoother surface, so it will reduce friction. Since I rev my car high constantly I wanted to make sure everything was as good as it can get.

The piston top coating is suppose to increase your detonation threshold, so I did this as a safety bonus.

It just one of those things that you might as well do if you can afford it, if your budget is tight, then don't do it.

ya but $250 in the price of an entire bill is pennies. sounds like its worth saving an extra few days for it.

 

Before I first started my build, I researched the h*ll out of the piston issue. I selected Wisecos, and this was NOT based on price. Their lower price is just icing on the cake.

Not sure what happened to the thread, but I read the ENTIRE thread more than once before starting my build. I don't recall seeing anybody post issues with the Wiseco pistons.

Here is what lead me to use Wisecos:

First, I scoured the Internet for comparisons of Wisecos against Arias. In 2004 (yes, it is a little dated now, but not so much when I first started researching the subject ) Blue Print Racing in El Monte CA either comissioned or got hold of a test report comparing dimensional tolerances of Wiseco, CP, JE, Arias, and Ross pistions. The report no longer appears to be available, but the thread is still available which indicates the favorability of Wisecos over Arias (see posts 7 and 23): http://hondaswap.com/forced-inductio...vs-ross-40393/

I also addressed this subject with Kyle at Import Parts Pro (he built my short block). He builds engines both with Wiseco and Arias pistons. I asked Kyle if this were HIS motor, which pistons would HE use, regardless of price? He said he would use the Wisecos. He said take the extra money I save and put it into the moly/ceramic coating on the pistons, which I did.

I also asked Roger at Japtrix. He told me, money aside, Wiseco or CP. Given the price, he said Wiseco.

I beleive Sound Performance Racing also prefers Wiseco as well and uses them in their 1150 hp beast, but I went with Wiseco before I knew them.

It might be worth contacting dealers who carry Wiseco and other brands, and then see if you can get their HONEST opinions.

 

Wiesco is on my list, but i wanted to check other things like rods/cams/etc.. so far for me Eagle Rods/BC Stage 2 cams are high on my list. Just wanna go through everything and double check what im thinking before i spend.. I drive the car hard and want the parts list to match my driving style..

 

I don't think you can go wrong with Eagle rods and BC Stage 2 cams. I went with JWT C2 cams because they have a little more lift.

 

hows the idle on them?

 

this exactly what i went with eagle, wiseco and bc2. idle a bit rough....but not that bad.

 

The idle is very good, but I had Sam at GTM re-flash my ECU and bumped the idle to somewhere around 900 - 1000 rpm. I hardly noticed the bump in RPM.

 

goal is to push the greddy kits limit on pump gas . so im trying to research as best as i can for what my builds gonna run me in cost...
