Default GReddy 18g v. 20g. for 600whp?

I'm trying to plan ahead for my build as I continue saving and I wanted to get some opinions on the setup for my car so here goes.

I'm planning on going GReddy TT kit on my Z. My goal is to put down 600whp on a DD, and run 10's in the quarter mile. I don't have any interest in putting down any more power any time soon as I'm sure the car will be a beast to handle at that power level. There is a guy local to me that has made 600whp with the 18g kit, but he recommended that I should go with the 20g kit so I will have more head room if I decide to up the boost even more later.

Is the extra money spent on the 20g worth it? And how much laggier is the 20g v. the 18g? I would like as little lag as possible as this will be mainly a street car that sees some track time. I know, everyone's famous last words "I'll be fine with xxxhp, no need to turn it up later" but I know what my goals are for the build and I'd rather get a good, responsive setup on the car first and then decide if I can deal with more lag/more power later.

Thanks for any help in advance.

Bone freakin stock

I have plans on doing the whole 9, built engine, full fuel system, engine management, full exhaust, clutch setup, suspension ect. ect. but I've still got alot of research on which parts I want to buy.

Would like to have Forged tune the car as they aren't but a few hours from me.

Oh man, another dreamer thread, 600whp, and wants to run 10's!! What is your drag racing experience like?

OP-the 18G kit will get you 700whp trust me

I make 605whp @ 13psi on pump, I didnt like the lag of the 20G kit, it never felt like it made up for it on the top end either....

ExtendMy10R: money wise believe me it worth it theres little money difference between the two kits, and the extra money goes toward good things such as the Bigger IC, Downpipes, Open Dumps, and on the other side u get the E-Manage Blue which is not at all for the big WHP and the 440cc RC Injectors which you will sell anyway if u want a bigger goal and the smaller Downpipes which Requires a regular Testpipes too, the only thing you will worry about is the Little lag which is about 600-800 RPM difference it also depends on other mods (ur exhaust mods to be more specific) just check out the Shop Builds Section you will get the idea about the Difference Between the 20G-18G

in the end 20G = more WHP with less PSI

Thats another good point Alberto for a Drag Race (Quarter Mile) the 18G is more than enough really, but for Street Racing the 20G is the one (can i say two here ) to go

I would bet my car I would destroy 99% of the cars on this forum running built motors and 20G kits especially from a roll...

If anything your statement above is backwards, the faster spool would help on the street for drag racing you should never be out of powerband ever

Your tuner sucks, my car makes 652whp @ 15psi PUMP gas, that number on race gas is weak sauce, but doesnt matter really it should still be fast.

+1

I did a ton of research before buying my 18g kit. Spool is very fast, and a local who purchased the 18g then upgraded to 20g's said the same thing about the lag and power up top, ended up going back to 18g.

I'm planning 600 eventually and the 18g is more then capable of making that with no problem, as Alberto said its more than able to make 700whp.

Make sure if you do the labor yourself you take a crap ton of photos and have bags for every nut and bolt. It will make your life 10x easier putting it all back together. TRUST ME, the few pieces i didnt bag and label were a b**ch to figure out.

What type of drivetrain assembly you plan on also with hopes to running 10's? If your looking for 1/4 mile time or top end highway runs, your talking two different sets of gearing as well. Ultimately it depends on what your goals are, but the $$$ ads up quickly if you start repeating work that is not necessary.
