Default Vortech Tuning Advice

So I've been doing alot of searching and reading about tuning the vortech sc. I bought the car (nonrevup) used with a Vortech SC complete kit on it. It runs smooth and seems alright but for some reason I feel like it should be faster with the SC. I can't even chirp second gear and I know my clutch is not slipping. I've pulled the maps off of the SS box and compared it to the stock vortech maps and the only difference is that Map B(timing) has been altered a bit on the higher RPMs. I would think that if you were to tune a car you would also adjust the Map A(fuel map). What do you guys think? I'm in Kansas so there aren't any shops that have ever tuned using the R4 software or the split second box. There is a guy in town that says he could tune it if I got him the software. Is it easy to tune the SS box without having done it before? I know that you would want to make sure the settings are correct when writing back to the ecu, but what about adjusting the fuel/timing maps and so forth. Any advice, recommendations, or feedback is greatly appreciated.

Setup

03 Z
Testpipe
Greddy Exhaust
Motordine 3/4 Plenum Spacer
3.33 pulley

Throw the SS box in the trash. And get a different EMS, like a utec.
Upgrade your injectors to 440's and put a 255 walbro in the tank.
RE- Tune.
Done.

Get rid of the Aux pump too.

The SS Box works fine.....

The Stock Vortech Kit is Designed for Stock injectors and Fuel Pump, But the Supplied Fuel Map in the SS box is Extremely Rich, and the Timing Map Retards the timing way to much...... You will see only 310-330 whp from a completely Stock Setup.

If you upgrade to a 3.12 or 2.87 Pulley, then you'll need to do Injectors and Walbro Fuel pump.

If you would like, send me a pm and I'll send you my email address, and I'll take a look at your maps.....

i have the 3.12 pulley, breathing mods, 440 injectors, and walbro with retune of the SS box. the tuner i went to never tuned the SS box before but he said it was pretty easy. Split Second mailed him a CD with the software necessary to tune it.

Never experience with tunning = can cause big trouble.

I know you want to try tune ect ect...Most of FI members drives few hours to go to tunning shop. Why? to get the car run right. If you do not have a experience (or your friend), i do recommand upgrade fuel and pulley and get a tune by professional tuner. And you can look how he set up etc etc etc and you can learn from there...

But if you willing to try, go ahead play with fuel/timming etc. Something might not go right and might break something, but that's the only way you can learn.

Thanks for the responses. I'm thinking I will have to make a drive to a reputable shop one of these days and have it done right. While i'm at it upgrade the pulley, injectors, and fuel pump.

i would not upgrade the injectors UNTIL you get to the shop... if you dont tune your car right it will NOT run right period. you dont know if the people you got that car from straight n!gga rigd that shyt and your running around trying to squeeze power out of it only hurting your stock block! if that was me i wold have SLOWLY drove (towed even better) that car to a "reputable" tuner within the first few hours of buying it to make sure everything was correct and then asked him what he thinks my next step should be and and issues i should be concerned with. your on the right track tho... im getting ready to drop some coin on a vortech kit soon and im just trying to soak everything i can before i make the decision. no worries, just take it slow till you get everything together

"chirping" the tires isnt something i would use at a way to judge if my car was running strong or not. that's just waaaay too low in the rpm range for you vortech to be of any use. thats more of how quickly and aggressively you can shift. good drivers can get a chirp in 2nd from just about any car.
