Default Moving to Hawaii.

I will be moving to Hawaii in February for about 5 years due to the military. I am concerned that there are not any reputable motor builders/tuners while I am living there.

I am looking to have a build with around 700rwhp output when I get back from Afghanistan and I want someone that knows what there doing to make this happen.

If anyone knows of good shops could you let me know. I normally go to Forged Performance for my tuning but that wont be an option once I move.

Im doing the same research for my build to. Hate to say it. but I wouldn't trust any shop here for that kind of money and power. I talked to some great shop and most of them ship the block out to get built. So far Im going to get my block built in the main land. If I find a shop here that I can trust to build my motor I will let you know. And for tuning, I dont trust anyone here for your power goals, but there are great shops here that ship pro tuners from the mainland for there tuning and will let you know when there coming.

Ahh, so they let other tuners use their dyno's to tune? When you say pro tuners flown in are they from their company or just any guy they recommend? I like my guy and I trust him, Sharif from Forged Performance is the MAN!

This sucks, I cant believe that a place so remote, this would be a gold mine since there is no real competition.

Is there not that big of a market for Performance over there? I realize that the speed limits are a killer but, I am not building my car because I want to go super fast which would be nice.

I am building my car because I can.

Yes they do let tuners use there dynos and you can rent the dyno for you tuner. they fly people in that the shop recommends. but if you can get enuf people that really want your trusting tuner they will be down for it. Just let me know when you would like to do it and we can start a list. AND Hands down Sharif from Forged Performance is the MAN.

one guy that makes the trip down here quite often not really known in the 350 world but he is highly recommended from the supra guys, john reed from rrev motorsports. he usually comes out here at least once or twice a year.

hehe, When I was there on vaca, the Z guys that I talked to, none of them really seemed to know the in and outs build scene very well, basic car guys, not that that is bad at all. I am just looking to get deep into the scene, build motors ect...

And about honda civics, haha, I live in Florida, there everywhere the Puerto Ricans love them cars. Always ricing up and down hwy 50.

***Edit not a dig on ricans either, my wife is half puerto rican***

I lived in Hawaii before I bought my Z and I would never take that car there and boost it.

The roads are **** and always wet. You do not want to be driving a boosted Z during a rain storm there.

i know your kidding, but huh

I was thinking when I do have my motor built, since from what I see there is no one in HI that does reputable build from what people are saying, I will have my guy build me one, ship it out here and put it in myself. Prior to that, I will talk to sharif and see if I can convince him to come out here. I am sure I can get a list of people that would like to have their cars tuned by him.

Well here is what sharif said. So it looks like if you guys want to have him come out now you can make it happen. I know that when I will move out there I am going to have him come out. He is well worth it.

meh...sounds like it is time to sell honestly

No equity put into the car from the build, just vehicle depreciation.
Tuner is 1,000's of miles away in WAY different time zone.

Get a GTR and call it a day. 0-60 in 3.5 or less (good luck getting that out of the RWD Z without tons of suspenion/tire mod $)...1/4 in 11.5. 195 mph top speed (Z limited to rougly 175ish unless otherwise geared). How much faster do you need to go on that tiny island?

One problem and you can be pretty screwed quickly...you need to find someone local

Problem is there is no one good local from what people are telling me. I have been asking around and for the numbers I am looking to be putting out. No one comes close. Ohh and if you have a spare $80,000 laying around I would gladly trade in my Z for a GTR any day. Unfortunately my last name isn't Gates. As in Bill Gates. So I am going to stick with the car I have for now.

Thanks for the suggestion though.
