Default HKS TT Gt2871r will not go pass 8psi :(

well i have 2500 miles on my build... so far so good. i got tuned at forged this past monday. I was only able to boost to 8psi with the stock actuators and a manual boost controller... i guess the actuators these turbos come with are pretty weak... i wanted to boost in between 14-18 psi.. i was pretty upset when sharif told me i could only boost up to 8 psi. but he told me if i changed my actuators i might be able to boost more???

my turbos are internal wg.. can some one confirm if i get stronger actuators i'll be able to boost more? Sharif said he wasnt sure.. thats why im posting here..

BTW i made 395 whp at 8psi on his dyno dynamics!! car feels wonderful, turbos spool really fast. and i ran 12.6 at 117, no weight reduction, street tires and 2.2 60's all night long...

yes, stronger actuators will allow you to hold more boost. also look at upgrading your exhaust if you haven't done so. I am sure sharif can get you what you need

don't know the exact setup you are running, but doubt you will need to pull the motor to swap actuators. I did it on my APS kit with the motor installed... 2 hr job though

Damn, you must have the smallest actuators in the world. What exhasut set-up are you running? Larger actuators may not help if you have a restictive exhaust.

And yes, Garrett, HKS, etc all have hi-pressure w/g actuators available in different sizes, pressures, and shapes. Pick some up, and Sharif will get that boost up for you. 2871s (if you are running the 53.1mm/71mm compressor wheel) should make substantial power once you get it up into the high teens. Even if you are running the smaller 2871, we've made 570/580 so the power potential is there. Good luck!

Sure thing - make sure to pick up a 2.5" or larger (preferably 3") true dual so that you can make good boost with the upgraded actuators. If you have an HKS hi-power or something, the small piping diameter (increased backpressure) might not let you make much more boost.

With 2860rs, a little smaller than the smallest 2871 configuration, we made 560whp/580whtq at 19psi (dynojet). In for numbers!

You won't need to pull the engine out to change actuators unless the HKS turbos are seriously buried in there.

Just need to remove the starter, alternator, and maybe the A/C compressor and it can be done!

Good luck, go with the stiffest spring Garrett sells, its incredible how much back-pressure these big engines push on relatively small turbos. You could also use forge actuators with custom actuator rods (you would have to make a sleeve that threaded on both the forge actuator and the garret shaft would have to be threaded to accept the sleeve). I'm sure Sharif will sort it out for you perfectly!

boostintt..What exhaust are you running? BTW I can send you some pics of how I wired the fans so they come on all the time if you're still interested.

so i can use any actuators designed for the garrett? the one on the pass side iirc bolts on to either the exhaust manifold or the motor mount. the driver's side bolts on to the turbo.

looking at the pics of the HKS kit, they are both attached via brackets.

no... i did the install myself, driver's side attached straigh to the turbo, but pass side has a bracket and attaches to either the motor mount on the exhaust mani

regardless of where the bracket attaches to, the actuator is attached to the bracket and can be removed independantly of the bracket. The actuators should be direct replacements... though they may need to be clocked, and the actuator rod may need to be shortened. If I were you, I would drop the car off at forged and tell him to take care of it.

No, you will need to find the specific application for your setup
