I had been working with PAR in Australia to solve our 3rd gear engagement ring separation problem for the better part of the last 6 months. The results are here and ready to be installed.
I sent 3rd and 4th gear from my CD008 transmission to PAR a couple months ago to have them make upgraded versions that won't have the same issue and that retain the factory gearing and are helical cut so they don't whine.
Here are the results....these gears look BEAUTIFUL.

Engagment ring is electron beam welded to gear for much better strength than the stock brazing method.

PAR third on the left, stock third on the right. Notice the teeth are even beefier (not like they needed to be but now they will be bulletproof)
![](http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o82/BriGuyMax/3rdteeth.jpg)
Again PAR on the left, stock on the right. You can see the copper braising on the stock 3rd and the tooth difference is VERY noticeable here. The little ***** of metal on the PAR is left over shot from the shot peening they did on the gear (I will remove it with a razorblade before installation.

Finally PAR on the left, stock on the right from the engagement gear side. The synchro notches are circular but the stock synchros still fit perfectly and snugly.

For anyone who wants to MAKE SURE they don't break their 6-speeds again, this upgrade is a must, and it's not too pricey either. Third gear alone would be $595USD+ shipping from PAR, I decided to do 3rd and 4th since 4th has the same brazing design as 3rd and I want to avoid having to pull the trans apart AGAIN.

If I understand this right, if you destroy your 3rd gear, you can just swap in this part and it is all fixed? It would be better for people to wait until it broke then replace it, if that is the case. You will still have all gears but 3rd...am I right?

I worked with Gerard, he was very helpful and gave me constant updates on the status of the gears.

A friend of mine that used to work at TRE (builds DSM transmissions) and I are planning on doing the trans work for people that don't want some random trans shop that's never seen this transmission doing it. We're going to wait until I have these gears in my trans and test them for a while to make sure everything is all good before we move forward.

That is correct. Since the 3rd gear failure is only the engagment ring seperating from the gear you don't get damage to the rest of the trans so all that needs to be replaced is third gear.

I will hopefully be installing these in the next month, gotta get a free weekend to head back home (I moved and no longer work at TRE) to get into the shop and get them installed (Jon the owner of TRE is kind enough to still let me come in and work on these projects that were unfinished when I left there).

I also tried to order them from PAR, but those holes in the engagement gear threw me off the loop. PAR guys were confused about them as well..
They were saying that an engagement gear with 3 holes are for the double synchro and 5 holes are for the single synchro, or something like that.. But, from what you are saying, it doesn't matter huh?

PAR has a gearset fully made for the 03/early 04 350Z transmissions, and now they have 3rd and 4th available for the most recent revisions since I sent them my gears and they copied them.
