Default Turbo Talk

So with all the Turbo talk going around, what is going to be your deciding factor on buying a TT setup. Is anyone going to wait to see the long term affects of a TT setup for our engine or even reliabilty. I have never owned a car with a Turbo, so I am not sure what to buy or what is better. Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks

I haven't decided between TT's or the supercharger........I'm kind of partial to Turbo's, but those with superchargers also love them.......I'd have the supercharger now, but I can't find one I like that fits under the stock hood.......and as far as I know, no ones got a TT set up and ready to go.............I think I will wait until next spring and I bet the market will have a lot more to offer

ATI's Procharger fits with no hood modifications.

If you are planning on getting a TT setup what are some stuff I can do for my engine now that will prepare me for the TT setup....I think buying parts that wont work with a TT set up ie intake, when a TT has a diff type......is a waste of money

If you wont need them later... you can sell parts later...

Remember, once you go turbo, nothing dealing with the engine is covered under warranty anymore, unless the service manager is your friend. They will have an out for alot of problems...

Pulleys, flywheel - you can do them, and they are both pretty cheap but low returns on current HP... Most exhaust will need to be changed for the turbo setup.

The answer is true. Most of the mods out now are a waste for a TT setup. IF I were doing a TT setup, the only thing I would worry about is strengthening the engine. All these other mods are cool for other setups, but with a TT and a stronger engine, all you have to do is turn up the boost. If you want extreme HP, then they might help, but strengthening the engine is first in my mind with a TT, IMO.

Yeah I realized that my warrenty was going to void after the Turbo, even now if I install an intake or anything like that, I have to take it off before going to the dealer. So I guess I really cant do anything to my engine, I dont want to waste alot of money...tight budget ya know.

i asked a similar question awhile back.....i too am considering a sc or tt in the near future....and i was wondering which mods i can make now and which would be a waste of money. Decided to just sit and wait. One question though.....someone said do things to "strengthen the engine"......exactly what would that be?

True that to the engine parts... Forged Everything...

I dont take things off when going to the dealer... My service manager has a Z too... my AC compressor threw its clutch off, and he gave me a whole new unit...

Just be real nice to them and stop in to car talk...

You can get Pauter rods, which are forged and good for over 1000hp, you can get some JE lower compression pistons custom made, they come with rings and pins. Eagle will come out with a set of rods soon, and they are going to be cheap, cheaper then Pauter, but I don't think they are doing any custom work right now, atleast when we called they said they don't. Crower will also make you a set of rods, they are a little cheaper then the Pauters, but quality is great still.

I'm pretty sure you have to pull the whole engine to get to them, not sure, but that's what we did with mine. I think it's something like 20 hours per Nissans manual to pull and put the engine back, and 10 hours to rebuild, not sure off hand, but it won't be cheap.
