400 shouldnt be impossible with the other bolt-ons such as :
1. crawford Plenum
2. Cams
3. Headers (sitting in my garage)
4. Grounding Kit
5. Iridium Plugs
6. Larger injectors (they seem to be maxed out looking at the dyno curve...there are spots where it looks like the engine is starved for fuel)
Has anyone gotten a good estimate yet on how much power the stock VQ can handle? I agree that adding a few of the items above to the ATI could put the motor over 400rwhp, but I think I'd start getting a little nervous going over that mark without going internal.

The reason I'm curious is I'm going the opposite way... I'm doing the cams, plenum, et al. now and will be adding FI next summer.

Thoughts?

Sorry...i didn't do a search. but does the FMU from ATI come pre-programmed? Or with settings to use? Or do we need to find a tuner?

The FMU has pre-set settings which are NOT EVEN CLOSE. The FMU HAS to be tuned on the Dyno or a Wideband inorder to achieve maximum efficiency and to avoid going to lean and Kablooey!!!!!

Nice number, I live in cincy aswell, love to check out your ride. I was going to do some pulls over at pauls to get some base line numbers, but they wanted 100 bucks, I felt that was a bit high for like 3 pulls. Did you do the tunning, or did they tune it for you. Import day at neckwater, is this sunday, you going to go out there?

Where in Cincy are you CarFanatic? I am in Montgomery. They put the car on the dyno but they had no idea on how to tune the Aeromotive FMU that came with my Procharger (imagine that...they are even a Procharger dealer!). Anyhow, They ran the dyno, I did the tuning, and it still was 200 bucks for 5 runs and a wideband o2 setup. Kinda pricey, but where else in Cincy could I have gone? The guys there are very nice but usually ONLY work on Mustangs. At least we had everything covered...They knew there Dyno, and I knew my car and the FMU.

The preset settings were SOOO far off that it was useless....it ran WAAAYY too lean that it could damage the motor.

I live in blue ash, not to far from you at all.

Yea I talked to the guys at pauls, They are nice, but there dyno price is expensive. Before my Z I was into hondas, I had to go all the way up to michigan to get my dyno tuning done.. If I had some extra loot I would buy a dyno and just charge people to use it to help pay for it. LOL but only in my dreams.

It's a pretty strong motor ... Smithtown Nissan was shooting some downright outrageous shots of N20 until they blew it. With a 300+ shot you're talking 500-550 at the crank, so 450 shouldn't really be a problem if you're tuned right.

I personally wouldn't go with the 9lb pulley on the ATI without replacing some internals.

These are the (variences) I would expect from a 6 MT. He has the same rwhp as you but like 28 more rwtq. You need to check your tranny out. You are losing as much torque with your 6MT as I do with my 5AT. Something is not right.

Well, maybe this will be solved next week when Nissan replaces my tranny which has been on order since before my Procharger went on...so they agreed to replace it.

Default yum

This is some tasty stuff. Let's keep this up on the 1st page.

Wow, procharger causes Z to run lean out of the box - - scary. I'd limp it to the nearest dyno shop - - better yet, have it towed.

I guess bumping all the faders all the way up on the FMU would work, but who knows what those settings are doing until it's dyno'd ?

Well, I'm definitely getting a Procharger when I get my Z, now I need a smog friend in CA that'll cover me when it comes time to smog.

True crank HP on an SCed car is going to be a little bit higher than using the standard drive-train loss formaula of ~15%-20%. The supercharger itself can take as much as 20hp or more.

I think he meant that the procharger factory settings were rich, not lean. Most people i've spoken to, including myself had the FMU settings extremely rich. Even in the manual, they say that the settings are rich in order to be on the safe side.
