Talking citymunky's GReddy build.

It has been a long time coming, but I finally installed my GReddy TT kit. At first I was planing to do a stock block build, but after months of trying to get my OC motor replaced by my good for nothing Local Dealership, I pulled the trigger got a short block built by Kyle at Import Parts Pro.

Here is my parts list:
  • Import Parts Pro Stage 1 Short block
    (Wiseco VQ35 96mm/8.8:1 Pistons)
    (Eagle Rods)
    (ARP Main/Rod Bolts)
  • ARP L19 Head Studs
  • Cosworth Headgaskits
  • GReddy 18G TT kit
  • GReddy Intercooler
  • GRedddy RS Blow-Off Valve
  • DeatschWerks 600cc Injectors
  • CJ Motorsports Stage 1 Fuel Return System
  • Walbro 255LHP fuel pump
  • K&N Air filters (Part Number: RU-3610)
  • HKS FCON Vpro
  • HKS AFK with Dual widebands
  • HKS EVC Boost Conrtoller
  • HKS CAMP2 (with Boost, Oil Temp and Oil Pressure sensors)
  • Motordyne MREV2 (Already on the car)
  • MotorDyne 5/16" Spacer (Already on the car)
  • NISMO Thermostat
  • Z1 Motorsports Pathfinder Rear Block Cooling mod
  • Samco 350Z Hose kit
  • Glow-Shift 13-Row Oil Cooler
  • Mocal Oil Sandwitch (With Thermostat)
  • Helix Test Pipes
  • HKS Exhaust (Already on the Car)
  • JWT Clutch
  • Fidanza Flywheel (Already on the car)
  • Injected Performace Solid Motor Mounds

BTW: Most of the work was done by me.
So here are the pic's

Day 1

Here is the Old OC Block, on the first day. I was using a standard Hex tips to remove the heads. On the last head bolt i started to strip the inside. So I had to wait to the next day go get a metic hex tips.

Day 2
When I got finally got the heads off. I took them to get the Valve seals replaced, which was a day turn around time.

Day 3

I removed all the old RTV from all the mating surfaces. It took FOREVER

Day 4

Here is the Stage 1 Short Block with the Cosworth Headgaskets and L19's with the old block in the back.

Here is the rear timing cover on.

Also make sure the Cam Chain tensioner is installed before bolting on the rear timing cover. Or else you will be uninstalling it, and removing all wet RTV you just applied.

Heads and Cams in

Timing Chain on

Engine Done

- Very Nice!!

Hope it all comes together seemlessly for you brother. You may want to rethink those solid motor mounts though, unless its a track car. I have a set and EVERYONE (even Berto) told me they were way harsh.

^^^I second that. The only thing I regret about my build is the solid motor mounts. They are just to harsh for my taste for daily driving purposes. If I ever have to pull the motor im getting some upgraded polyurathane ones instead.

Day 6

I bring my car and engine to shop. First thing I did was install the Walbro fuel pump, using the CJ Motorsports DIY .

Here is the pump assy out the car

Here is the Walbro (Silver) and Stock (Brown) fuel pumps. The white bag attached the stock pump is the fuel filter.

Here is the CJM Hose installed.

The rest of the day, I remove my Cats, HKS H-pipe, mid-pipe, drive shaft, and start to get the car ready to drop the tranny.

Day 7

I drop the tranny, remove the clutch, and flywheel. Once the flywheel is removed, I clean it and install a new steel friction plate on it. Then I put it on the new block along with my new clutch. After that was done I reinstalled the tranny back on the car.

Day 8

I drain all the fuilds, remove the radiator, and etc. I drop the motor and tranny together.

Day 9

I removed the wire hardness, and other parts needed to that needed to be swapped over to the new block. I also installed the oil sandwitch, the fuel injectors, fuel rails and hoses, Nismo Thermostat. Than I start installing the wire hardness on the new engine along with the MREV2, Spacer and Plenum.

The Green injector is the DW 600cc, and the black injector is stock.

Solid mounts are not that bad to me. I'm already used to my harsh ride with my Tein Flex on these crappy VA roads.

I know . But remember I was planning on a stock block built first. I tried to sell it in the marketplace, but that was a no go. JWT claims it can hold 500 WTQ, which I know is BS. I'm already started saving for a twin disc clutch.

Day 10

I swapped the new motor in place of the old motor. (Way harder than it sounds). Once that was done I installed the engine supports and solid motor mounts. Now it was moment of truth, BOLTING ON THE TWINS .

As you can see I upgraded to Stainless Steel oil pressure and oil return lines.
Also instead of using the crappy pipe thread fitting GReddy gives you, I used good 'ol AN fitting for everything.

Then I installed the wastegates, and Test pipes, and heat wrapped everything.

Day 11, 12 and 13

I get the motor and tranny back into the car with the help of 3Buddha5. This day have alot thinking and planning, due to the engine and tranny being a few inches off. The next day I installed everything back in the car (exhaust, driveshaft etc). I run vacuum hoses for the wastegates, and route the CJM fuel return hose.

Day 14

Rest Day

Day 15

I towed the car out of the shop over to citymunky Motorsports. We start hooking up all the intake and intercooler piping. BTW it is a major PITA to install the air intake pipes to the turbo, while the motor is in the car.

Day 16

Remove the front bumper and installed the intercooler, and oil cooler, and routed oil hoses.

Day 17

Connected the FCON, Fill the motor with oil, prime the fuel system. We had a few problems, but we fixing most of them.

NO GAUGES FTW!!

As far as I know I'm the first person to get the Stock Nav Screen to display in my Non-Nav car, and without using the Nav computer.

Here is where my AFK, EVC, and EDFC are hiding.

The cosworth is a stopper-style just like the HKS gasket. He will be fine.
