(I think this is when Japtrix stopped using Cometic H/G's on VQ motors.)
fair enough, but that was 2006, and he was using standard ARP studs.... as far as I know, the cosworth gaskets are different now. The build we did was in 2008.

Just look at the description on the cosworth gaskets from Sharif's site:

"Cosworth Stopper Ring Headgasket VQ35 96mm .6mm Pr. #16229

A must for high boost engines, Cosworth high performance head gaskets use multi aters of stainless steel for increased strength. The outer layers are embossed with a flouroelastomer rubber material designed to meet the demands of harsh sealing environments and load conditions. These new style gaskets incorporate a stopper ring structure, just like the very popular HKS headgaskets. Cosworth Gaskets feature a "folded stopper" layer for additional torque around each cylinder. The width of the sealing area is specific for each application, thereby providing ultimate sealing properties. "

A lot has changed since 2006 and I do remember hearing the cosworth gaskets were rebadged cometics. 3 yrs later, I don't think that is the case.

The newer Cosworth gaskets are all stopper ring style ala HKS and others. A couple years ago, they were rebadged Cometic.

I did 19psi for a year on stock DE gaskets and L17 studs. Never had a problem. Now have HR and L19, but havnt started it yet . I will be sure to test them out for everyone.

^^^^ enough said ^^^^^^

can we all agree that cosworth gaskets are a viable option? ... and are about 150 bones cheaper than HKS

Well, that puts it in the same class of the HR head gasket. Looks promissing, but still not completely proven for the extreme builds. Sharif is still recommending HKS...

Sylvan Lake, check these out. The are listed as having the folded stopper layer:

thank you, I found out the new Cometic "Fusion Gasket" are not recommended for street cars. So its nice to see another option, after tear down i will see if a sleeve dropped or if the head just lifted.

I would definitely put the new cosworth gaskets above the HR gaskets. If it were my build and I had the choice between HKS and cosworth, I would go with whichever was cheaper. I wouldn't even consider HR gaskets

I went with HR gaskets and HR head bolts, 15psi and so far no issues, I also really think the modification of the blocks cooling passage is very beneficial, this coming from my Miami weather, and no heating issues at all!

I have about 4 to 5k miles on my build and have been beating on it everyday as well as some track use (drag), my estimated power is 400-450whp (no dyno time yet)

bringing this back from the dead:

does anyone have an exact picture where it needs to be machined? The picture from JWT just shows a small section of the head and i'm not sure what part it is.

I would like to try the HR gaskets if it will help out on cooling. I've used cometic before but i'm tired of replacing expensive gaskets. Unfortunately i'm hoping to push this engine up to 700hp on e85 so i hope the HR gaskets hold.

do you think that it is possible to incorporate the Pathfinder cooling mod with the HR head gasket and run the cooling return line through the center (under the intake runners) similar to how the HR and GTM [http://www.gtmotorsports.com/product.php?productid=16924&cat=275&page=1] have the cooling mod set up?

i think i might try this...

You will have to fab the hard line under the intake and get a different hose from the top of the radiator at least. I know some have eliminated the pass side return pipe all together for a cleaner look. If performance is your goal I would just run the pathfinder or GTM/Forged mod, if its cosmetic then its whatever, just watch your temps.
