cometic headgasket or HR headgasket
Your link isnt working but I think i know what youre talking about. A member on here did the HR coolant piping mod on a DE...KelEL...theshaddix...I cant recall who

AFAIk Joe is the only "proven" case for HR HG's. He had headlift issues and that was that but I wouldnt go around saying an HR gasket would perform as well or stand up better than even a Cometic HG. Perhaps in regards to cooling but its too soon to say IMO, more people need to prove these things.
For something as crucial as a HG, $300 is nothing to worry about (especially considering your SN LOL), if it is, you shouldnt be building IMO.

Cometic doesn't make any head gaskets with the stopper built in. The HR is a multi layer metal headgasket with stoppers. That's actually a superior design.
I've spoken to a few engine builders (that specialize in jaguar, vw and american engines) and they agree that the stopper is superior. Why doesn't cometic switch if it's so much better? Well the manufacturing cost is much higher to add the stopper. That same engine builder is a vendor for cometic.
That's the same reason why HKS gaskets are so highly recommended for our high hp builds...

Not quite.

Do they make hks hr head gaskets? I am sorry if that is a noob question.
I have lifted my head 3 times and used cometic. I am using hks and darton sleeves and pathfinder mod with l19. Vq35de block. Twin turbo. Some times my coolant temps go passed half sitting in traffic. Should I get the block modfied for hr coolant mod? Or maybe start over with no sleeves

Some have had success, but many others have not.
Should I be concerned with the ones I got through you guys in February for my NA 88mm stroker 96.5mm build? It's still not assembled.
i'll take pics to prove it. Every cometic gasket i've purchased has a stopper ring in it. Not sure what cometics you have but in the last 2 years the ones ive purchased have them.
If cometics sucked then people that have 100mm bore wouldn't use them for their 1000hp builds.
I will see if my sleeve dropped i am ripping it apart to take a look at it to make sure.
Can you tell by looking the seleeve if it dropped
If i decide to keep sleeves and do the hr mod do i have to loose the path find mod?? and go back to the stock one?

sucking and being the only part available are 2 different things
but cometic hasnt seemed to have the failures like they did in the early days of the VQ

If they were that bad the people putting down power would find a company to build them custom head gaskets that are worth it. I think if their 100mm gaskets hold the 800-1000hp then they'll be perfectly ok for my 500-600hp.
Mine held for 3 pulls at 14psi with 28* of timing before it finally went when that idiot at GRD attempted to tune my car. That's a pretty strong head gasket to hold that.
i dont think there has been a non-sleeved/ ARP stud build with HG failure in the past couple years.
Joe was the the last one I can think of that lifted a head and that wasnt on L19s.
I really doubt any HG choice is bad anymore.

I forgot to put in my other post that i agree with your statement about cometic being the only option for the large bore guys. I also think because they are the only ones they stepped up their game in order to keep their big build customers happy.
ya. I think quality of all the headgaskets is up to par in order to meet the demands of the customers.

They swore none of the cometics had stoppers. Maybe only the vq model has the stoppers?
Either way im going to be running hr gaskets... with the l19 studs and arp mains...
I think the first head gaskets they made for the vq didn't but that was a quite a few years ago. They just need to keep up on their info. Same as cosworth's being the same gasket as cometic. They are different now.
For what they wanted to bore/hone my block (3 grand, without a bunch of clearance measuring) I think they better be up to date on what they tell me. over priced turds
I'd have to do some searching, but can't recall anyone having Cometic gasket issues with stock or close to stock bore sizes and good L19 head studs trqed to 90-95 ft/lbs.
Since L19 stud is out of stock, ARP standard or HR bolts hold more hp ?
I see HR engine approximately at 520hp @ motor on youtube but it's the same for rev up engine with hr hd gasket & hr bolts?

If you can't find them locally find a shop to get them for you.
If worse comes to worse I can help you get them for you from ARP directly custom made.
Absolutely do not use anything other than the L19's. They're worth it.
Or pick up some used ones.
Get a Dynosty head gasket. It's almost identical to an HKS gasket (which is basically the best) but it's about $100 cheaper.
