its not just about tire though.. suspension and camber play a big role as well.^

You won't be hooking that power on those tires here on vegas streets. remember here in vegas we hardly get any rain so the streets get pretty slick when they are bone dry. When it dose rain, just after the roads dry you will get the best traction out here due to the roads being washed per say. When i drive the z to Cali traction is never a problem there due to better road conditions.

Anybody want to chime in about vegas roads that has driven out here?

Id think its harder to hook up on salt damaged, HUMID summer roads as opposed to dry heat...

Regardless with the TQ you prolly make I feel like you went overkill, especially since you cant hook 100% in 2nd gear. As long as your happy.

Even at 656whp and 612ft/lbs if I start high in 2nd at about 50mph I can hook up in the dead of summer.

What are you running for suspension? are you setup pretty soft for spring rates and dampning for better weight transfer to the rear wheels? i am running a pretty stiff setup on bc coilover with the dampening 10 clicks off of full hard front and rear. im wondering if i soften up my setup a bit if this may help. What do you think?
BTW you would be suprised at how fine desert sand puts a nice polish on pavment out here when it is driven over repedidly day after day..... i lived in the NE most of my life Boston to be exact and the roads were far better for traction then out here. i learned really quick out here on how bad the roads are when i ate **** a few years back on a off ramp when my front wheel tucked on me riding my R1! it was R compounds from there on out.

Also how long will R888's last on street? I have no clue

6000-8000 miles, depending on how much you spin them.

[QUOTE=thom000001;8222974]I agree.

There is a certain point where normal streets just can't hold anymore power no matter the tire.

I think the max most streets, with a good sticky tire, can take at normal speeds is in the 650rwhp range. Above that you are gonna spin until high speeds.

I am looking at the nitto's (both nt05s, and 555r's). I am also considering a slightly taller tire for more gear multiplication to help out in traction (taller > wider for traction, if you have the tq)

Your stiff suspension is certainly a factor.

i may try backing off the dampening a bit and see if it helps the back end squat down during a launch off the dig.

I run one of the stiffest suspensions on the market, 14/14k springs!

Taller gears may help.

tyres still need to bed in like brakes so u should see it get better within the next 200 miles provide you are not going side ways at every opportunity.

-1 rear, -1.5 front

It handled wayyy better IMO at -2/-2 but I couldnt hook very well even at 380whp sometimes.

Keep in mind I run a 3.3FD which of course helps as well, and for 2nd gear to hook I start at 50mph and zing it to almost 70mph. If I start in 2nd at say 35mph and mash it, the car will spin some and then fight for traction in 2nd.

I find it strange how people go FI, but don't bother to upgrade their tires to accommodate their higher horsepower. Michellin PS2, PS3 and Pirelli Russo tires are pretty nice tires as well. These tires are used by Porsches, Ferraris and Lambos.

Not exactly apples to apples there,

Lambo is AWD so we will just ignore those.

Ferrari's make zero tq and are mid engine

Porche's are maninly AWD except GT2's (at least any that make power), and they are rear engine...

Mid and rear-engine cars have a lot more weight over the rear tires to help with mechanical traction regardless.

And cars like vipers and forg gt's run a 13in wide rear wheel lol.

So its kinda like finding a happy medium of sticky, width, etc.....

Lots of oil on our streets, when the wind picks up we have a nice layer of the finest silt. Getting traction with an NA Z can be a PITA at times.

almost completely unrelated...I just saw the KDW 2's are now available in 245/40 AND 275/40. I was on the KDW TT's and get really good (read: the car is still too slow) traction at 370 whp, I'm ordering a set of the 2's this month. hopefully the traction is slightly better with less noisy tires.

do your tires wear on the edge easily with that camber setting?

275? Blah, IMO 285/35 is perfect, 295/35 which I run now is nice if you're into that pudgy look, which I love.

-1 camber doesnt wear the edges at all. My fronts lasted 20K miles at -2, you just have to hit corners hard to wear them evenly

PS2s are a whole step below the likes of the RE11 and AD08, which I'd consider a half step below the R888 and Pilot Sport Cups.
