Built Automatic for FI, experiences?
Sup all, I just took down my automatic and opened it up to find burnt up clutches and also the band was in bad shape. What company or shop do you guys like to use for automatic builds? I dont wanna go with Level 10 as I have heard enough bad things about them. I have been talking back and forward with IPT (Import Performance Transmissions) and they seem to have good reviews based on my research, alot of the subaru guys use them for their auto's.
Can anyone give me suggests on what company you used and what experiences you had?
My main concern is upgrading the clutches and band with superior friction material vs. stock. Thats probably the weakest part of my auto.

Forgot to mention about that. Other than valve body upgrade, which its an improvement over stock, as far as increased pressure, less overlap between shifts, etc... I am referring to an auto capable of holding 500-600whp. I doubt a VB upgrade alone will be enough for such power.

Stop the dreamer threads
We dont care what you decide on
We dont care that in 2011 you may go ST or TT
Thinking ahead...
We dont care when you ordered your FI kit
We dont care what shop it's going to (yet)
We dont care what whp you want
We KNOW that you wanna run 10's with an $8000 budget and no prior drag experience
Post a thread when it is all said and done with....provide pics, dyno numbers, driving impressions, shop review, etc, THEN you will have contributed to the community and not wasted my time in reading this crap or in writing this response.

Btw this is not a dreamer thread, you can look up my previous threads or google my username. I have a built block with an automatic that just gave up so I am looking to get the auto built.
I just spent the first half of the day taking out my tranny as well as taking it apart to check for damage:

Thanx Sylvan I'll look him up and send him a message., Grill?
Yeah I figured, some people start assuming its just another newb asking dumb questions and mess up a possibly good informative thread by posting useless responses such as jay'z'. Reworded my initial post a bit so others dont get the newb flag raised.

In your photobucket account, looks like a awesome grill set up in the back yard.

PS copy the img code and just paste it in the message then you get the big pictures and not a link to your photobucket account!

Thanx thats good to know, I have been talking to Ty at IPT and seem real informative and helpful, I am pretty much inclined in doing the build with them. Just wanted to get suggestions or any more info like yours.
Replied to your PM. The GTM stage 3 includes:
1. Upgraded TC - can be to your specs. Unless you're only interested in drag racing, I wouldn't set the stall too high (remember stall is a function of input torque). I had mine redone for 3k rpms per Andre at Edge (who may be the contractor for this work from GTM). The first one was supposed to be 3200, but it ended up being closer to 4500 pushing 500 wtq.
2. Upgraded VB - transgo shift kit installed.
3. High friction rebuild kit with additional machining to enhance cooling of the transmission. That's what I know talking to Sam. I would give Sam a call over at GTM. He apparently spent many years rebuilding transmissions before he opened GTM, so he knows his stuff.
I've run over 10k at 500 wtq and not had an issue. GTM delivers! I would highly recommend a transmission temp gauge and a cooler (with the bypass feature for when it's cold) - see my build thread in my sig for the model I installed.
With paddle shifters, it's a lot of fun running a boosted car.
Good luck.

Looks like I am on the right track then. I have always heard great things about Andre at edge.
I modified my VB with the Transgo HD2 kit, finished working on it yesterday. I might have to upgrade on the cooler, through the years my temp's have always been at 180-195degree's after a run, even up in the 200's if I brake boosted off the line, for being stock it lasted really long (about 5 years or more of abuse, the last 3 with 320-400whp/wtq). I also have the electronics part covered as well, i have a stand alone TCM with a manual option, so I am always manually shifting via a momentary switch (up for upshift down for downshift) it is fun lol.
again thanx alot for your response.
