Question How much does it cost to have a vortech sc installed?

Wondering how much it costs on a clean car. There is no garages around here that do it, so I'm wondering if its worth driving a lil bit to have it done or do it myself.

If anyone has had one installed let me know how much it cost.

Vortech V2 on 2003 350z

Thanks.

Yeah I've heard the same thing. Someone said it was 1000 for them. Others have have 500-well... a grand I guess. When I buy mine, I want to find someone around me who knows how to do it so they can help me install it. I'm not paying that much for installation. I'd rather spend that 5, 6, 7, 800 dollars on gauges or other things to support the S/C and buy lunch and dinner for the person helping me lol.

I would think the experience of doing it yourself would come in handy for all the eventual repairs and other mods that you'll need after the S/C install.

OP youre lucky you didnt get flamed for this, i cant believe how helpful and straightforward these replies are. but yes id recommend doing it yourself. that way when one day randomly the car wont start, you'll know how to poke and prod your injectors and other various parts to hopefully get it to run.

I know I can do it myself. I'm lazy tho lol. I dont have alot of money to have it installed, just trying to get prices of ppl who have had theirs installed.

I need to do alot of learning about tuning it myself tho. We have no shops around here that do that stuff.

Thanks for the replies, anymore are welcome!

i'm in the process of piecing together my vortech build, and when i called a local shop, they quoted me $2500, AND ANOTHER $1000 FOR A TUNE!

That being said, i decided i'm going to spend the money on some jackstands, a nice set of tools, and a lot of tylenol... this will be my first time doing ANY wrenching on my cars.

leave the tuning to pros. your install is worthless if its not tuned correctly and the motor blows

$0.

Install it yourself if you've got the chance. IMO it is a MUST to understand your FI system...something will eventually go wrong and you'll be out of luck if you can't at least diagnoise it.

That should be a very straight forward DIY set up.

Just remember, don't overtighten things. Everything on these cars is aluminium, and one can easly strip some threads.

I completely agree with these guys. DIY is the way to go.

He's in SoCal so i'm 90% sure which shop it is. I also got a few install quotes before I chose to install my kit myself.

I think I know too, particularly with those prices...but I won't say because I don't want the nuthuggers to come rushing in...

OP, I installed mine myself as well...took 2 days and I was on a tight schedule because I had a tuning appointment, but yes, it's definitely doable, despite the crappy pictures in the Vortech install manual...

You will learn an awful lot about your car and FI and it will be much easier to diagnose issues by doing this...and with FI, there will always be issues...

without trying to take away from OP's thread, yeah i realize that if i go FI w/ my amateur level of understanding, when something goes wrong, i'll probably sit on the edge of the road and cry.

My build is still a few months off, as i'm pieceing everything together. But again to the OP, really try and do it yourself. Being lazy or not, it's the best way to learn about what you're doing to the engine, as many have already voiced.

If for the simple answer of something going wrong, at least you can tell a professional what you checked, and narrow the list of "what ifs" from many things, to a few things.

It varies from shop to shop but generally you should be looking at about $500-$1k for installation.

Like anything else the first time you do something it will be a challenge. Read the Vortech manual over and over until you have the whole process figured out and research installs on here. I posted my install on here "My 10 day build" when I put my Vortech in so that should give you some helpful hints. The point is you need to know how everything goes together because things will go wrong and break and you will need to know how to fix them. If you don't take the time to learn this stuff by installing it yourself you will always have to depend on a shop and pay a lot of money every time you need to fix something. The Vortech is a very easy install so take your money and buy some nice tools and do it yourself. Then make sure you have it tuned by a VERY good tuner. I drove 1000 miles to Sharif at Forged Performance and then a year later dropped a pulley and added a few mods and drove 500 miles to Chicago to have it tuned by Tuan at GRD. Tuning is where you need to spend your money.
