hey, another thing i just saw.

you're using a twin scroll. If you want to decrease the lag that you'll have from a rear mount system you can use the Sound Performance spool valve. I think it's like 300$ or so and it directs the exhaust all to 1 scroll for faster spool down low then opens up full later for max flow.

Yeah the quickspool is a good idea, but downside is that it cost more like $500. With the entire exhaust (pre-turbo) piping wrapped, spool up will be almost as if the turbo was mounted upfront, so thats not that much of an issue. Now I dont have experience with 2.5" charge piping on a RMT so there might be a big of lag, we'll see once OP is done, cant wait.

Is that WS location ideal? It doesn look like it's going to bleed anough of the exhaust they way it is place right now.. I could be wrong..

No.....not Flux core!!!!

do yourself a favor and get a small bottle of 75/25 and Mig those pipes up. Trying to FCAW those tubes together is not the right process for such thin wall material. You can do it, but it'll be ugly and won't make for a very quality weld.

BTW....I must give your props for attempting this project. Too many people are afraid to look outside the box and try something on their own!

Is that part of the secret?? - i was planning to get some gas to try to do the aluminum pipes - i am embarrassed of my welding like my nasty toenails in flip flops!

i've been getting a bit better getting the settings turned down enough but they still have a way to go before you'll be getting any close ups!!

i work sat / sun so no more progress til mon / tues / wed off.

will spend work looking up fuel pumps, fuel regulators & local welding gas suppliers!

i didn't know using a gas welder was a secret?!? flux welders should never have even been invented they are so shitty. drop that like it's hot.

fuel pump: walbro in tank, that's it.

and you have to have a full return system to run a pressure regulator. no way around it. There is nothing to regulate when you slap a regulator on your pressure side of the line. for that setup you really don't need it though. 600cc injectors and a walbro and you should be ok.

That's one of my favorite tracks to play on Forza. That video is hard to watch though: Porche, Porche, Viper... had to stop after that.

I was thinking the same thing. Must be a reason why STS placed the WG on that side.

could be an illusion but that wg pipe coming off the exhaust seems really small.

When I bought my first welder, I did some flux core welding (FCAW) on some exhaust pipes.....and wow was it easy to burn through. Gap filling was really tough. Also with FCAW, you need to wire brush all the slag off of the weld after each bead. you definately don't want to weld over slag.....makes for a bad weldment!

As far as the gas goes, get a bottle of 75/25 (75% Ar / 25% CO2 )or Stargon (90% AR / 8% CO2 / 2% O2) and change your spool to MIg wire......use either .030" or .023" for exhaust pipe. You also need to change th polarity of the mig gun. FCAW uses Electrode Negative.....MIg uses Electrode Positive. That's a super easy change though; it'll be in your manual. Of course, I am assuming that your Lincoln is "gas ready" and has a solenoid for the gas. If not, they are easy to add. Lincoln probably sells a kit to upgrade your machine if it doesn't have a gas solenoid.

You'll be amazed at how nice MIG is compared to FluxCore!!! nicer bead, less burn through, no slag, fewer sparks, easier to see the weld through your helmet too! FCAW is super bright when you are arcing - you can barely see your bead!!!

As far as Migging Aluminum, you can do it, but not on thin tubing. AL Mig is fairly ugly and messy. it throws down alot of metal....you certainly won't get the tig look!!!! There is a time and a place for aluminum mig welding.....intercooler pipes are not that place!

Keep practicing and go burn some metal!!

well i got out and got some work done so the day wasn't a total waste!

first i hacked the w/g v 1 beta to bits - it was very ugly and you were all way to nice with that piece of crap!

i took some comments to heart and relocated it - can't get more flow than that, still has to go through a 38mm opening but at least the pipe no longer restricting flow,
the exit will have to cross between the exhaust inlet and under the outlet but there is room to do that.

w/g V2.0 beta

it even looks semi decent in close up!
[just tacked together at this point with generic pipe]

(photobucket running v. slow at the moment - sorry for any red Xs!)

i would deffinitely go with the quick spool. You can never hit boost soon enough with a rear mount ST
