Also the OP is using a Fluidampr crank pulley. That is larger/overdriven compared to stock. It increases impeller speed and boost as well. When making impeller speed calculations, be sure to input the Fluidampr's diameter of ~6.125"

I've since changed my cog setup to 32/34 (stock) because the 30/32 setup was too loose and the blower was running unevenly...so now I'm running about 59800 rpm on the blower, but I can have my tuner increase my redline to ~7025 to get that measly 200 extra rpm ...and the 928 Motorsports 2.75 pulley is great, no slippage at all...

Also, I am running a bigger intercooler as well, 24x7.9x3.5 (OEM is 20x7.9x3.5); not as big as Str8duims old setup, but I get to keep the crash bar...

Shoot maybe I should have kept my Si trim...the scroll is slightly bigger on the Si trim (I tried swapping casings of my Si and Sc trim and the Si is definitely bigger) and maybe I could have swapped the bigger Si casing and that may help with AIT's...and Vortech doesn't sell only scroll casings, either...ohh well, I'll shop about for a blown Si or T-trim and maybe I can swap the casings..

Thank you for the results and video/graphs.

It looks like all testing was done with the smaller pulley and motordyne products--but there was no initial run with your previous exhaust component setups compared to later MD runs?

I am trying to figure out whether the ART pipes and XYZ pipe with HFC will give more power than HFC's and aftermarket y-pipe on a centrifugal SC setup (I have HKS sc). And if so, approx. how much of an increase. I would just like to know if the gain(s) if any would be worth the ~$1300 plus labor and retune to get it done.

Well...here is my dyno from my initial tune...this tune was done with the following difference in setup:


-OEM Crank Pulley
-2.87 Pulley and 30/34 cog setup
-JIC Y-pipe

At this point I already had the ART pipes...

The yellow dyno info was without Meth....while the red/green dyno info was with Meth...

So...with the addition of the Motordyne XYZ w/ cat and a 2.75 pulley, 30/32 cog and the Fluidampr crank pulley, I got similar numbers as my previous tune with Meth...I still haven't tuned my new setup with Meth, so we'll see how much more I can get...

Why a 2.75 pulley on a 32/30 setup instead of a 2.87 pulley on a 32/28 setup? The 2.87 would have more surface area and the difference in impeller speed would also be slightly greater ( 2,000 rpm higher which would put him at 60.4K at 7000rpm ). Am I missing something?

I bought an aftermarket pulley from 928 Motorsport with angled groves so it will hold better than the standard Vortech pulley...absolutely no slip ...

I actually had some slip with my 2.87 and my tuner had to add some compound to the belts to get the number I got on my intial tune...

Also, I tried to run a 32/28 setup but there is no cog belt that will fit with that setup without significant modification (see JET MECH's thread..)...believe me I tried

And I did get a slightly bigger intercooler from Turbonetics/Spearco that is rated to 550 hp...

I got the 5-312...I did have to modify the charge pipes to fit the wider intercooler...

For reference, the OEM Vortech intercooler is the 5-374

Doesn't the non revup kit use 32/28?

EDIT: I saw the intercooler part later, I erased my comment on it.

I have a revup kit...OEM revup is 34/32...

JET MECH tried to run with the 32/28 on his revup setup with a Si trim blower, and he couldn't get a belt that would work with that, so he had to do some extensive modifications to his setup to get it to work...

Thanks for the additional graphs; great numbers btw. I guess there is still no direct dyno comparison b/w standard HFC's w/ aftermarket y-pipe and ART pipes with XYZ pipe w/HFC on a SC setup with no other change in mods....

Btw, how do you like the Fluidampr? Any issues with the install or its performance? Is it doing its job well? Does the engine run smoother? Do you notice any vibration/noise before the engine warms up?

I do have my older dynos somewhere...however it won't yield any useful info because it was on my stock block with a different blower and different pulley setup...

As for the fluidampr, I didn't install it myself, but my mechanic had no issues...the car definitely feels smoother and less roughness and harmonic vibrations during startup and driving...

What is the formula for doing impeller speed calculations? And what are Vortech max rpm #'s?

Its the ratio of circumferences between the engine and impeller.

Assuming all other variables remain constant, if your primary pulley increases its diameter such that it increases its circumference by 10% the impeller speed will increase by 10%.

Assuming all other variables remain constant, if your secondary pulley increases its diameter such that it increases its circumference by 10%, the impeller speed will decrease by 10%.

Tony, if u had the option to either increase the primary crank pulley's circumfrence 10% or decrease the secondary (sc) pulley's circumfrence 10% in attempting to increase boost/power on a sc application, which would you opt for? Would they both result in the same boost/power increase or would decreasing the secondary pulley's circumfrence yield more gains since it is closest to the blower? Or would they result in the same gains? Would a larger sized crank pulley and stock size sc pulley be less prone to belt slip bc more belt wrap than a stock size crank puller and smaller sized sc pulley?

Vortech V1 blowers for the 350z are rated to 55k rpm max...Vortech V2 and V3 blowers are rated to 53k rpm max...Also from Vortech's website...
