Default My 350z Build

Hey guys, my name is Josh. I'm new here, just signed up today.

I have a 2005 350z, and its modded pretty well.

Vortech Supercharger SQ. Its 9 psi, with supporting mods.

Im currenty running 375whp on dyno dynamics.

I have a question. I was thinking about doing internal work, because my car is on stock internals. I was looking for some advice as to what I should do to make it handle more power. I have supporting fuel and air mods, im just scared to turn up the boost and tune, because I dont want to blow it up.

I saw this piston/rod kit on ebay, and was wondering if this would be sufficient for 500whp. or if it would improve longevity of my engine.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Wisec...Q5fAccessories

if anybody has any advice they could give me on the next step in my build, i'd really appreciate it!!!!

thanks!!!

Any pics of the car? Videos? Dyno charts?

Do you plan to install the internals yourself? I think Wiesco and eagle are brands that a lot of people use, but I went with different brands myself. Someone here should be able to chime in about the internals you linked.

I would consult with a reputable shop about the goals you have and what you will need to reach them. Rods and Pistons may not be the only upgrades you need.

i wasn't planning on doing the install myself, but i could.
there is a shop here in knoxville called fastech that does pretty good builds.

I wouldn't want any more than 500 whp, but honestly the only reason im even considdering internal work, is so it lasts longer.

375-400whp seems like a lot for stock internals, and i'd like this car to last a long long time.

im just worried im hurting it, i dont drive like a bat out of hell by any means, but i dont want to feel guilty when I get on it, if you get what im saying!

thanks!

Welcome to the Forum and congrats on your new car. When you get a minute take a look at the Vortech FAQ thread. There you will find everything you need to know about your setup. With the info you have provided; it should be safe on stock internals. If you feel a need to build the bottom end; you will be better off buying a built short block unless you know how to do this yourself. Good luck and enjoy your ride.

Should be fine. Do you know who tuned it? What are your A/F ratios?

There are those with higher power that haven't had any issues with a considerable amount of time and miles on it. There are also those that have popped their block at similar levels. It is all a risk/cost analysis. I built the long block, because it was worth it for me to never have to replace the engine.

as soon as you open up your stock motor, chances for problems goes up 1000 fold regardless of who does the build. for your power level, I wouldnt touch it

That particular combination is a solid, cost effective way to go. I used it, and achieved over 600 whp. I ended up over-reving that motor and destroyed two rod bearings (completely my fault), but the rods and pistons came out squeaky clean.

Import Parts Pro (IPP) sells the Eagle rods for $475 and the Wiseco Pistons for $699, which totals $1174. I'm not sure whether this includes shipping. Nonetheless, I have purchased countless parts from IPP and Kyle has outstanding customer service, and is always there to provide answers to questions that you may have. I consider IPP to be a very, very valuable resource to this community. You may also check with Forged Performance, GTM, Injected Performance, Sound Performance Racing, Speed Force Racing, and other vendors that support this site. These also are vendors who provide valuable resources.

awesome, thanks for the feedback! I think it will be okay, maybe if I have a spare 2 grand laying around, i throw them in haha. I dont feel like I need more power at all, it seems fine to me.
Ive heard meth injection will help me a bit, longevity wise. is that true?

Usually you run meth injection so that you can run more boost and/or advance the ignition timing to get more hp. Water, meth/water or straight meth will help stave off detonation, but if you have a good, conservative, tune and run high octane pump gas, I don't think detonation is going to be much of an issue at the hp level you are shooting for. At most, I might run water injection as a safety precaution just in case you get a bad tank of gas at some point.

Do you have the rev-up motor? If I remember correctly, the rev-up rods are a little more stout than the previous VQ35DE rods, and should provide a bit more safety margin.

Then you have the basic VQ35DE. The rods in this motor are the weak point, and usually are the culprit when these motors let go when boosted. Detonation would not be good, as that really stresses the rods. It is worth repeating - make sure that you have a conservative tune from a tuner that is experienced with FI VQ35 motors (I think Function Tuned is pretty experienced if I remember correctly). If you have done this, I only see detonation really being an issue if you get bad gas, which seems to me to be more rare than it was 10 or 20 years ago. Water injection would not be a bad safety feature to have just in case this happens, but you need to evaluate the cost/benefit. If it were me, I would save the money and start saving for a built motor. You never know when the stock rods will give out. Some people have been running boosted on stock blocks for a very long time, while some don't last long at all. It might be luck of the draw, or it might be due to aggressive tuning. I'm not sure.

If you still want a water or water/meth injection system, I have a pump and injectors that were barely used and can let go for a good price. I think I even have a spare tank. You would need a controller and tubing to complete a kit. If you are interested, PM me and I'll give you pricing.

EDIT: One more point, if you run meth or meth/water injection you should probably re-tune. With straight water injection there should be no need to.

Yes that price does include shipping anywhere in the lower 48. The Wiseco/Eagle is a great combination for what you are doing. Send us a PM or call us we will help you out. I don't want to take away from the original thread.
