Default Fair price for uprev FI tune?

I'm soliciting quotes from a few shops and the prices are so different... like 50% or more price spread for tuning labor.

What should I expect, ballpark, for a full _FI_ tune w/uprev and HPX MAF? The first two items are pretty consistent but the last one is all over the map...

MAF ~$205-$225
LICENSE ~$300
TUNE ????????????????

I don't mean to be rude, but your tune for an FI set up is NOT something you should price shop on - you should be deciding on who the most trustworthy shop within your tolerable driving distance is ..

pay now or pay more later.. imo.

Really? Between $600 and $1,200 just for dyno tuning? No software or hardware included in those prices?

I've got a few reputable choices in my immediate area. I'm no going for some no name shop or tuner; they are all well known in the Z/G community with decent reputations.

What would it depend on exactly?

Yes, I'm talking pure labor. Parts and uprev license are pretty much fixed, and separate from what I'm asking.

Your setup and how long the tune is projected to take.

How much should accounting for the upgraded MAF affect the tuning labor? Is adjusting for the new MAF trims labor intensive, tuning-wise?

We charge 175/hr and FI Z/G's with a HPX MAF usually take around 3 hours. we also do some package deals if you purchase everything through us(injectors, license, MAF ETC... WE have done dozens of FI UPREV set ups...

If you have to buy an Osiris license I'd say around $1000, If you already have it around $160/hr for 3-4 hours. Then adjustments for daily driving, etc.

The upgraded MAF shouldn't make a difference in tuning if the tuner knows what he's doing

PFS has never done UPREV. Although their tuner is very good and I'm sure he could work it out, I'm not sure if I want to be the Guinea pig living more than 50 miles away.

This is interesting because 2-3 extra hours to set the curves for the HPX MAF is included on one quote. If it wasn't for that I think the quotes would be alot closer...

Go to Hills and have Tuning Techniques do it.

If the guy's tuned with an hpx maf before he'll have maps that he can work from and it won't take an extra 2-3hours. Unless of course he's never done it before in which case I wouldn't recommend you let him guinea pig your car

Nobody starts from scratch when they tune, you usually just load up a general map and tweak it for the specific car.

If the shop's quoting you an "extra" 2-3 hours, they could be trying to make some more money from you or they could legitimately need more time to figure it out. Either way I wouldn't go there

^+1

preloaded basemaps for general mods can cut tuning time in 1/2. I'm sure tuners love cookie cutter builds just for that reason.

That why I threw Sharif a curve with a laggy as hell super high HP build. earn that money LOL!

I don't have the quote in front of me but being near austin uprev themselves are charging me 125/hr I believe, I will double check my email later on my work laptop, I think it was going to be like 600 maybe for the tune on my vortech tuner kit. But I already have the software installed in my z from them.

Hills wants 5-8 hrs @$250/hr for the tune. So far they are at least 60%-80% above the other quotes I've gotten in terms of hourly rate and overall price. I'm wary not only at the price but the fact he has no base maps for the HPX MAF meaning (according to what others are saying in this thread) he's never done one before. I tried calling Tuning Techniques directly hoping for better rates but got a call back from Hills saying he is under contract with Hills for all G/Z tuning in the area (I don't think Susanne was happy about that LOL)
