Cracked Subframe Cradle
Has anyone else cracked their rear cradle? I have heard of it but no threads from what I found.
My car only makes around 360whp so compared to others not much.

No idea how or even when. the car has never been in a accident either. To put it into perspective I have about about 60,000 miles on the car, been boosted since 15,000 and still running on the stock clutch albiet slipping easily at the moment.
It's all the Tq from the HKS GT Supercharger you have installed. LOL.
Man that's crazy. To bad we can not see the other side of the frame. It would be interesting to see whats really going on.

Yikes. Looks like that's going to be expensive unless you can get one from a junk yard. Nice pics and nice job picking up on it. Let us know how it turns out.

I had to buy it locally due to its size. Cost me about AUD$1,000
The sad part is that in the US it is about half the price @ AUD$500.. The shipping was the killer.
Parts: 433.58
Freight: 675.89
Total Invoice: 1109.47
Our local prices for parts are so stupidly expensive compared to abroad.
If i found one second hand it would still be around the 500 bucks. Not worth the hassle due to the amount of work involved.

I agree the stock welds look like shiit. If I had a good reason to pull mine out, like these cracks.. Rather than replace it, I would tig weld around all the seams to stiffen it and prep and paint or powdercoat it after smoothing out any ugly welds.
Did you just happen to notice this crack, or did something lead you to inspect it?

I was looking for a rattle in the backend and happenedto notice it when I removed the suspension strut.

That's because they used an aluminum mig welder to weld those subframes together. aluminum mig welding does not give you a very aesthetically pleasing weld......but it is much faster for production welding. They could have gotten a better appearance if they used a pulse mig machine, but it is what it is now.
a g35 sedan has this issue too on the g35 forum

Ive ordered my subframe, subframe bushings and diff bushings. Just going to refurbish all of the bushings back there. Once i have it out I will post a pic. Im going to have chassisworks weld the crack and have gussets put over the main joints then powder coat it. Can anyone show me a post where theyve done a sub frame swap? I'll most likely be doing this by myself so i need all the help i can get. Thanks, take it easy guys.
