What does the force protocol do ? I don't want to do something to the ecu that may damage it.

It means the gauge will use only 1 protocol (the correct one) to talk to the ECU instead of trying them all every time you plug it in. NOT forcing the correct protocol is going to do more damage than not...

this thing didn't work on my Z.

it can read only the temperature but it wasn't even accurate. Maybe my ECU is messed up?

Anyways, i kept it plugged for a few hours. On my way back home all of my gauges (on the Z) just died, but the car was still running and I couldn't tell what speed i was doing lol. All alarms (ie. vdc, abs, srs, cel etc etc) lit up like a Christmas tree!

I pulled the plug, switch off the engine and everything were back to normal!

anyone experienced this???

Did the Force Protocol 9141 before anything else and everything seems to be working fine. Already pulled a code and the SEL wasn't even on. But I knew there was something wrong since my idles have been very rough...it pulled a P0300 code, random misfire. That certainly explains my rough idle.

So is this thing worth it? Can I get this to replace AFR or oil temp? Ir is it more of a supplement?
