Default UTEC help (STS turbo)

I installed a STS kit on my Z and it came with the Turbo XS Utec that has preset maps from STS.

after the install, i have surging and the utec is reflecting knock in heavy load boost above 5000 rpms despite running rich (10:1). I figured it just needed a detailed dyno tune and figured it would fix the problem.

After 4 hours of making multiple pulls and changes by the tuner, the problem continues. The tuner says he has never seen anything like this and has to do some research.

We double checked the grounds on the ECU/UTEC but thats not it.

If anyone has any suggestions, please help.......

I checked over the install 2 times the day i put it in, as well went over it again the day we fired up the car, and yesterday did it again and re-did the ground wire with the problem continueing.

The tuner is an established shop and came highly recommended.
I highly doubt it was the tuner, not saying its an impossibility but i would be surprised if that was case here...... Plus this problem is occuring with the base maps that came with the kit. He saved the maps and settings to send them off to have them evaluated.

I going to trying calling the companies today to see is they have any suggestions.

I appreciate everyones help

10:1 will cause huge problems right there. fix your AFR to mid-high 11s and report back.

Agreed. To much fuel can also cause knock.

you have surging as in idle surge? or like a stumble during acceleration?

I changed to the lean map and it takes it to a 11.5:1 to 12:1 but still get knock at the same place. the surge is at idle but isnt horrible, better when A/C on, neither is unbareable. The car stalls after driving and shifting to neutral, rpm drop to the point it kills the engine.

I pulled the plugs tonight and the tips are white.

The shop wanted me to check O-rings on injectors, and they seem fine....

pull timing in that area and see if it goes away.

are you using copy thru timing for vacuum areas?

I know the tuner pulled timing on the dyno, and it didnt help.

i personally have no experience tuning a car and have had the utec in the car for a week. I dont feel comfortable making any adjustments to the maps at this point cause ill probably make the situation worse.

I dont know if this will help:

What do you recommend for gap on the plugs? Kit says .26 or .27, the tuner says .15 to .18....

your car should run 100% with the stock 0.042" gap.

If timing and AFR didnt change anything, are you sure its real knock? The settings on the UTEC are quite conservative....

Throw a few gallons of race gas in there. If that clears up the problem, then we can go from there.

If not, then its not real knock.
