Vancouver Island FI Build... G35 TT
lookin good! but please please please don't use the cobb... lol
Haltech is cool, but for your setup Osiris is more than capable. Just make sure the guy you do get to tune it has VQ specific experience, tuning these motors for boost is very different than just bolting parts on!

I haven't ever heard of it but then again a year ago I didn't know what jwt was. I'll do some research!
If i wasn't planning on pushing the car could could Cobb stand in? Let's say I need to drive it to Seattle- as an example.

This email just came in. Thoughts?
Hi Ian, vehicle will not run, will start and die, more than likely the injector resistance is wrong, we can put in the old injectors with the new fuel system, then put the aftermarket ones back in when you get your stand alone? Thoughts?
Thanks again guys.

Eh ace- thanks again
I won't be using cobb Long term. Maybe from now that they're complete on the project and enough to run it over to get a tune with the stand alone setup. Or onto the flatdeck- whichever. Short term only at any rate.
Any thoughts on this injector thing? Will going back to stock injectors help the car run? Again- I'm not taking it to a track- just thinking about getting it to a tune. Not bother and just get it towed? Lsi says theres a good shop in Victoria that they trust.

I always wonder why people say they won't trust a COBB for tuning but recommend uprev? They pretty much do the samething reflash the stock computer
anyway the Haltech is a much better route, or even put you stock injectors in and drive it back to Cam for an up rev tune? I am not sure what impedance those injectors are they may be the wrong impedance and may require a standalone
I bought them from ibkarleto on here, you can maybe search him and see what he was running for EMS? I would but I am on a smart phone and searching sucks.

I am having a hard time finding ibkarlito's threads where he mentioned the impedance but I did find he was running a HKS standalone so I bet they are the wrong impedance, unless you run a standalone sorry again
if you want I will buy them back for the same price I sold them to you for. If you go with a haltech they will work but not on up rev or COBB.

I strongly recommend you get on the phone and call a reputable tuner who has experience tuning FI VQs and can explain all this in detail to you, Lawrence at Intec Racing is close to you and has successfully tuned a bunch including many guys on the forums, not trying to sell you anything but really hate to see people's dreams get shattered by bad advice and inexperienced tuning. It costs you so much money and heartbreak in the end. 253-872-0872
Okay- I'll give him a call tomorrow... provided I don't still sound like I'm scuba diving in my own body. Stupid cold.
I have to tap into this communication between the shop doing this job and the shop in Red Deer... But driving across a province on a wing and a prayer... yikes.
I also have yet to get that line from Dynosty with the Haltech deal... That would solve all these problems in one move- but the timing is off... pardon the pun.
And Sylvan don't worry about that. I was going to upgrade the EMS anyway so you can buy me a beer someday instead. Because ya, after all the help you've given me and the guidance... you DEFINITELY owe ME a beer. Actually, I think you bought the last round didn't you?!
I'm in Calgary until Friday if you're in the area. Be great to have a chat.

I know a tuner that is a COBB Pro tuner he said he talks to them all of the time and he said quite the opposite that the support from COBB is top notch and they always get back to him right away even on NA stuff they don't sell any more.
The ones that died due to detonation were likely the tune not the device again as far as know they reflash the ECU just like uprev. Anyway there is no doubt the Haltech is a superior system and if the budget permits that is what you should go with.
Ian your stock injectors will work but with out a tune 680cc or stock injectors will have risks DO NOT go into any boost at all, with out a tune the 680cc would dump so much fuel in the car might not run at all. I would go with the cars stock tune as the COBB and your custom tune will be more aggressive, if you plan to drive it to the tuner. I would even talk to Cam and see if could email you a tune that is very rich for more of a safety factor. I would still recommend trailering your car to the tuner rather than driving it.

Eh Gord.
Cam says he knows someone in Victoria he was going to set me up with... so I'm not sure which way it's going to play out. No problem going stock- nice thing about Cobb is it's just a couple of buttons and the map is reloaded. If I have to drive it around the block... maybe I will... If it's going to Seattle or Red Deer... well... we'll see.
I'll talk to this guy that Seymore recommended and get the skinny from him. I hope he's used to talking to car numpties who have no freakin' clue because I'm sure he'll be V8 slapping his head in no time... but hey, I'm learning a thing or two!
I have given the go ahead to return to stock fuel system (kidding, just stock injectors) and suspect that will be the difference in at least making the car run. Nice thing about Cobb is that you can go into valet setting which will essentially keep you out of boost range- so even if I get an itchy trigger foot I can't do any harm.
Still waiting for that Haltech Pm..

If you don't want to drive all the way to Victoria, you can turn on Keating Cross Rd and go to this place as it's even closer to Skidney.

If you refer to their Jan. 24 posting, they tuned a Haltech, built 350z to over 600whp. They are authorized Haltech dealers and they even have a special on them right now. (Except I don't think it's necessarily for a model that works on Z'ds... Not sure.)
Good luck with whatever you choose as it sounds like you haven't had much luck, yet!

Okay. Well I just had a great chat with Lawrence From Intec racing and I must say he makes a very convincing argument for the uprev route. He admits Cobb is great but uprev gives him more access to those things that he wants to be able to Control when doing the tune. His position was to get into deatchwerks injectors that run at the same impedence as stock- and they have existing base maps for. There are others of course but that's what he recommends.
He stated that with my setup and the fact that I'm AT that uprev was the best option. He added that haltech is a great product but would isolate a lot of the features built into the Infinitis ecu. I wont get into all the details but it was reasonable considering the limitations of my build. Haltech remains the gold standard- but unless I can find a used one (stumbled into another one recently) I am confident that uprev will be the answer to my issues. If I change out the injectors, Cobb remains an option but doesn't give the guys who know tuning the flexibility they want. At this point i want the guys who know the car to have all the flexibility they want!
I think I have a buyer for my Cobb anyway.
So we'll see where It ends up- I know cam was talkin to 5252- the guys he knows- and if we can work something out then well I'll look at it. But I'm impressed with intec racing too- and there are a lot of benefits to going down there to get the work done with the dollar being strong.

I am not getting into it, because I was told things in confidence but I would not go to 5252 they are nice guys but, I wouldn't take my car there.
Intec racing sounds like the place I would go, Seymore recommends them and they sound knowledgeable. They are the first ones that have been able to say why they recommend uprev over cob with a supporting argument.

It's funny about this 5252 shop... I probably hear more conflicting opinions about them than any other shop mentioned to me in the past few months... and believe me as Seymore will attest I've heard a lot of them. Reasons for and against...
On one hand I want to take it to the outside third party who is not at all related to the shops involved (Progressive / LSI) and let them go over the build and do the tune. But then that leads to "we didn't blow it up, they did."
But that's the risk I guess- no matter what you do. It's either going to be that or "We didn't blow it up, YOU did!"
Argh.
The course of action as of this moment is to leave the stock injectors in on a stock map and limp to Seattle. Most of it is on a ferry two minutes from my house on the island anyway. New injectors and an Uprev license. Those guys can go over the build and do the tune... Lawrence sounded exquisitely dialed in on what needed to be done and really left an impression with me. Kudos to Intec.
I'm looking at the deatchwerks site now and I'm seeing 440 and 600 injectors... reasonably priced- $550. There are 850s too but I think that's too much juice for what I'm looking at.
Thoughts?
