What would you do?
Hey everyone-
I am kindof popping back in here after a three year hiatus.
Long story short...I am the original owner of a pre-order 03 Track. After paying the car off, I started collecting components for a build in about 2006-2007. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, all of the components are still on the shelf in the garage. Thankfully I paid the car off, or she would have been liquidated
Nonetheless, I might be heading overseas for two years. I might come to a crossroads and may need to make a decision soon. My income will be quite nice with this new job, and I'll be able to afford to go which ever route I choose as far as Z cars go. I am seeking your opinions.
What would you do?
Sell the car and the twin turbo kit and all the "fixins" now...and buy a 370z when I get back?
(I think the absolute most I could get for the car is $16k despite extremely low miles and excellent condition)
or
Store the car and build it when I get back in two years?
(The car is completely stock, and has only 18k miles on it)
What I have now for the Z is a PE TT kit, HKS Fcon Vpro, injector, gauges, clutch, Cosworth intake, rods, etc...
All I am short is an exhaust system & pistons.
After doing some light research about boosting a 370z, it seems that the FI market for that car is still very limited. I find this surprising considering the car went on the market over two years ago. I remember back in the day the FI forum here was buzzing with activity from APS, Turbonetics, HKS, Greddy, PE, you name it. There were dozens upon dozens of subcomponents available for the 350z... It just seems to me that the aftermarket business is not as excited about the 370z. Is this perception accurate?
With all that said, what would you do and why? Sell the car and parts, or store it for two years?
Thanks for your input.

If you want a 350z keep it and store it. You know the history the car with 18k miles. Car is still brand new. If you want a 370z, sell the 350z and the parts and buy one. I personally would keep the 350z but that's just me.
Stock block or built motor? That will determine your path.
Actually the aftermarket for the 370z is pretty booming. This site is not the only site for 370z information. There is another site that is very popular for that, and it is getting very large. There are an array of TT kits and a couple of supercharger kits out for the 370z. If I were you and had a paid off car AND the parts that you say you have I would keep the 350z and just do a stock block TT setup. Even though the 370z has more potential in stock block form vs. the 350 I wouldn't buy a new car if I were you. UNLESS....you were buying a used 370z.
Your out of pocket costs to get your boosting if you were to keep the 350z would be significantly cheaper than if you were to start over with the 370z. Granted you would sell the TT kit and car which will net you a nice chunk of change. However, cash is king and in this economy you never know when you may need cash. You have already paid for everything so why not just pay to install the kit then get it tuned and be on your way. If you were doing a built setup then your costs will just skyrocket, and you're not guaranteed that it will last a decent amount of mileage. Hell you're not guaranteed that the stock block will last a decent amount of mileage.
If it were me I would go a different route, but this is your car so to get back on track in your context I would keep the 350z and install the TT kit you have. Tune it for a safe power level and call it a day.

Would you pay cash for the 370Z...or would you have payments??
If you are paying cash....I would sell 350z....If you are not paying cash and you dont mind having payments.....my answer is still the same...
Like someone stated before...there is a big aftermarket for the 370Z...GTM has a nice TT kit for that car....I myself is looking into getting one....love the way it looks.
The only reason I would keep the 350Z is if I planned on building the motor...YOu have low miles....so I know its not an easy choice for you....not to mention you have paid the car off
...
You cant loose either way IMO...

keep the car, you're the only owner so you know the history. As for the parts, no one is going to pay you what you paid for them. You said you collected parts for FI over the years? Why not see your project through, you just paid it off, why would you want to start making payments on a different car?
Keep it and do a stock block build...BUT......have it in the shop with PLEANTY of time to get it finished by your return.
There will always be something newer or faster but if you love your Z keep it throw the kit on it AND as many suspension goodies as you want then enjoy it.
Now if you wanted to upgrade to an Audi R8 or something, that would be another story

OP seriously car payment sucks, build that clean low mileage track n have fun.
Thanks for all of the responses. It looks like the "keep-its" won. It will be a built longblock. If building it, I plan to stick to my original plan and explore the limitations of the smaller PE turbos. I was hoping to see 550whp.
I'd most likely pay cash for a 370z if I went that route.
So you all think the 350z is just as a good platform to build on as compared to the 370z, eh?
