Default HKS F-CON SZ Vs Uprev

I've seen there are threads comparing the Uprev and Ultec, but there's nothing about the HKS. Is there any advantage to running a remapped HKS SZ unit over having the ecu Uprevd?

Thanks, your FI question provider!

Let me first ask you a question....Is there an advantage in buying a Blueray DVD 3D player instead of a VCR?

You can watch a movie with both!..... Should I start a thread comparing them or do they each speak for themselves.???

Everyone already knows that it all depends on what powa range you are looking for that would erase one of the two.

You can run big power with a Reflash and a standalone... But the same can't be said about the Reflash...

I use the Osiris up to 600rwhp with no issues(PMas). The Haltech or F-con is going to be better solution for cold start in a car that has cam upgrades. You may also want to consider asking the shop that is performing the tune what they suggest.

also keep in mind, with cams and large injectors, 1000+ regardless if you run a standalone you will need a reflash to control idle, at least with an f-con vpro

He's asking about the SZ, not the Vpro.
Id say there about the same, or even perhaps the Uprev has the upper hand.
With the Vpro it's a different matter.

Another problem with HKS is the accessibility; The closest place to me that can tune it is almost 1000 miles away. Had good results with Osiris so far

HKS might be a nice EMS but the tuner licensing is total crap... I will never consider an ECU that is completely locked to HKS approved shops.

Thanks for the answers, I searched for quite some time, but I always know I'll get good info. Going to plump for the uprev...well if I can figure out a solution to fitting the SC bracket!

I have a pre 2006 HKS/Rotrex supercharger kit and a 2006 rev up engined 350z. Where the bracket should fit, it's almost like it my engine has 2 cam shaft sensor areas and is a different shape to the one that will fit in the bracket.

This one would fit my bracket. See the 2 tear drop shaped covers.

My engine looks similar, but has larger pain in the **** ones with an electrical connectors on them and so fouls the bracket.

There are a lot of turbo cars tuned with a program like uprev, ever heard of HPTuners for GM cars? What do you think 90% of ls1 turbo cars are tuned with, the stock pcm, turbo mustangs, the stock pcm. If you need launch control and all the other bling yea you can get an fcon. Uprev will work fine on boosted cars. MAF blow through systems work great.

I forgot if you dont have a non-rev, you have to reflash to bump your idle. I could just use a cipher to bump mine to 850 for free.

New setup will need a flash though to bump idle to 1100 and get rid off speed limiter. tough to do standing miles with 150 mph limit

Its not even the same. Other platforms ECUs are WAY more hacked than ours. We cant control much with Uprev compared to GM motors, EVOs, etc. Ya MAF tuning is fine but there are absolutely ZERO safeguards tuning that way. Overboost = f'd, knock over 5k rpms = f'd, aftermarket O2 wideband support = nope. Just to name a few. For a simple, low power turbo setup, its fine. You are crazy to use it for anything more though.

My uprev reads my factory wideband sensors. I have a revup. When I do finish my car and turbo it I will tune it with the revup, will not buy fcon.

^by your sig it seems as if youve got quite a bit of internal work done. why not choose an ems like fcon/haltech/pro-efi?
