Sorry to bump this dead thread guys. I've seen the broken camshafts, but have not seen any report of what happened once the camshafts broke. Did the motor still run?

My motor has a knock that's been getting worse, and started with a CRACK so loud I thought I got hit. I was just idling at the time but I gave the car a couple burnouts the night before. The knock is very loud though the oil passage, heard through the solenoid valve. Just curious if a car with a break in the camshaft like this would still run. I already ordered the VTC pulley(rev-up) for the suspected side, but didn't find this thread until now.

Based on the amount of metal in the oil, the camshaft is looking more likely. However, my car runs fine but just has a knock and timing chain rattle on the suspect side. Any ideas guys? It'd be much appreciated!

It won't run, the valves for the broken cam obviously won't open. Cams and the pullies are actually under the most stress when idling so that's typically when they break. Good luck Bobby it's an ugly job....or maybe it's just I am sick of working on my car
