Default F/I clutch questions

What clutch options work with an OEM flywheel and hold no more than 450 wtq and NOT break the bank? I am ditching the POS 13lb flywheel -- I really miss how quiet the OEM dual mass was.

I can get a smoking deal on a brand new OEM flywheel but are there any aftermarket clutch options that will interface with it?

Side story -- I blew the pressure plate on my comp. stage 4 at the track during staging so now I'm looking for another setup that is quieter/less harsh but can handle drag and F/I abuse.

jtgli was running a JWT setup and still may be at 700+whp. It drives like stock and is quiet too.

If you want to upgrade, check the link in sig and PM me to work something out

How is the engagement compared to stock with the combo? I don't want any shuddering or harshness AT ALL. Sick of it with my now dead comp combo. I shouldn't have to put up with all that for a measly 400whp.

i mean its chattery sounding, sure.. but i gotta be honest.. its not a bad sound.. and im super picky w nasty noisese, vibrations squeaks.. im super **** about that stuff.

You cant hear it in the car w windomws up one bit either.. so Drivethrus are really the only time its an issue

As fas as engagement, its been great.
Very smooth.
I ahve some other trans issues so my overall experience has been shaky, but as soon as its all fixed up, should be fantastic.

From what i heard, its really the way to go.. very stock feel but grabs very well.

OP was your comp combo at full face or a pucked cluch disc? if it was a pucked cluch thats were all of your chatter and noise and harshness were coming from, things will be much more tame with a full face clutch disc like the JWT combo. hope this helps

Yea the noise isn't so much of a concern as the actual engagement. However, I am really leaning towards a stock flywheel as the lightweight tends to bog and overheat easily on 1/4 mile...My mechanic and I also have a feeling that light flywheels can sometimes cause timing instability I'm currently experiencing during hard shifts with the comp flywheel (crank sensor related perhaps).

Thoughts on a new OEM dual mass + JWT combo?

I remember seeing a member on here with a JWT flywheel and stock clutch. Opposite, I know, but I can't see why it wouldn't work. You could look for a heavier solid flywheel, but nothing beats the DM.

I think that an OEM flywheel with JWT full face cluch will be more than enough for the 450 ft/lbs your looking to put down, with over 2500 lbs of clamping force, it sould be more than sufficant for that, and like you mentioned with an OEM flywheel shifts will be much smoother and you wont loose as many rpm's between shifts keeping you in the power longer

I’m in the same boat, installed a new Exedy stage 1 organic clutch and JWT flywheel thinking it’d be perfectly fine as I was “only” pushing 360whp at the time… 3 months later I bend a rod at the drag strip and start building my motor, lol… I’m really hoping that my combo holds 450 lbs. of tq.

Oh and you shouldn’t have any trouble running a JWT clutch with the OEM dual mass flywheel.

But rev matching is so much better with a lighter fly...why not go middle of the road and get the full JWT combo?

Would have been quite a bit cheaper to do the full combo. I don't know, I was so p!ssed off at my previous setup I wanted something as stock as possible and I got the stock flywheel at dealer cost. Plus, the stock flywheel will aid in my process of elimination on an ignition timing issue. I have a slight feeling my previous flywheel (with regards to the crank sensor) wasn't jiving 100% with uprev.
