So engine builders fwck up some engine bearing's tolerances and do the rest right!!!

Why don't we just admit that the VQ35DE/HR is not meant to be boosted

Spun engine bearings is a common issue with Nissan engines.

Buy a GT-R. I spent tens of thousands of dollars, not to mention all the time I wasted pulling motors etc to try and run 10's.

I could have just taken all that money and put a healy down payment on a used GT-R, spend 5 grand on a full exhaust, E-85 Conversion, tune and intake and run just as fast as my car

For the people that have spun bearings...What brand bearings were you using? Were you guys monitoring oil pressure? Just trying to get some info for my buddy's build. We ended up doing own work and decided to go with OEM bearings due to the avail. of different size bearings.

^^^ +1, I’m also curious as to what bearings everyone’s running? I’m pretty sure IPP uses ACL in all of their builds.

There are no aftermarket bearings for the HR engine, so I'm stuck with the OEM ones.

no aftermarket option? do they offer undersize bearings from nissan? cuz if they are using stock clearance on a high hp engine thats a recipe for failure since oem's use tight clearance anyway. theres no way that stock clearance would work on FI. Of course the builder could machine down the crank a little for larger clearances i know napa charged like 40 bucks to refinish a crank and that would loosen the clearances like .0005

are the built motors the only ones having issues? There are literally hundreds of boosted VQs out there and not everyone has problems. What percentage of boosted VQs do you think grenade? Is it 1 out of 4? The shops I have talked to, Z1, S&R, Forged have boosted the stock blocks in these cars and claim their customers have thousands of miles on them. Which I believe because my best friend has a Forged Turbo car and it seems really reliable.

Are we talking just the built ones that are having major issues?

Only built engines have these constant bearing issues. Stock blocks typically handle boost fine until the rods bend from too much tq or the rings are torn apart from detonation.

I'll put money that these so called built engines would have failed with or without boost.

VQ's aren't meant to be boosted? More like 'engines aren't meant to be built poorly'. I'll put money that these so called built engines would have failed with or without boost.
Choose any engine builder you want and I'll put money that his built VQ35 engine won't last 10k miles with me, Cass or Alberto.

I have Cosworth in mine.. Paid a little extra, but was told by a vendor here that its was a better quality product than ACL . Dont know if its true but a few extra dollars and me not wanting to find out the hard way helped my decision... Also bought the Injected Girdle for added safety measure...

On the Subby Forums they say they are rebadged, but Cosworths have a anti-friction coating on them.

I pretty sure mine had a coating on them when i inspected them for my build but dont quote me on it... I never inspected an ACL bearing so i don't know if they have a similar coating..

Hard to tell from anecdotal reports how many built engines actually fail. I've been happy with my one and only engine build (FP S1 shortblock). 3 years and 25k+ miles and knock on wood, keep trying to max out my setup for more power without any disasters so far.

Engines that fail right away shouldn't cost the owner anything more than time if you can do all the work at one shop.
