Default BC3 Cam owners... Need input.

As the title states, I'm looking for input on Brian Crower Stage 3 cam owners. I'm wondering if others are experiencing more noise out of their heads. Reason for asking is i'm trying to determine if my clearances are a little too loose or if these cams are supposed to be a little louder.

Also, are the shims on the pucks or in the springs? If they are on the pucks I could do the clearances in the car, if on the springs, then the heads would have to come out if I'm not mistaken.

Just looking for others thoughts, and experiences.

Thanks everyone on advance.

The shims may be the buckets, I know I had to buy several different sizes to match up heads on different builds.

They are aggressive so they do come with a little more noise compared to a 264.. but nothing extreme. If you have lots of noise beyond what is normal for the VQ, check out your clearances. There are no "shims", just different thickness buckets. You can get a feeler in there with the valve covers popped off, but you will have to remove the cams if you need to change to different thickness buckets.

Thanks guys! I may pop the covers off this weekend and check them. Can the buckets be replaced from the top, or do the heads have to come off? I for some reason remember that the buckets can be done in the car, correct?

To swap buckets, you must remove the cams. To remove the cams... can be done in car, but is very involved (removing front covers, timing chains, upper oil pan to be done properly, which requires subframe etc).

Ok cool, I've replaced tensioners twice in the car, removing all that doesn't bother me at all any more, just need some time and I have an engine cradle to hold the motor when I drop the sub. That makes me feel a bunch more at ease. Thanks Hal a ton for all the help!
