Default Vortech Fuel pump question

Since i bought the car i was not able to tune due to leaning issues... today I tested the Auxiliary pump that comes with the kit with the tester and its not receiving any power...

My question is, originaly where does the power is taken for the pump, the SS box? because i have an aem fic now because the ss took a dump. Or should i just wire it to an ignition 12v source?

Thanks!

The ss box triggers when the aux fuel pump comes on( ie at or around when you hit boost) wiring it to 12v ignition isnt a solution imho

It is very simple to do the in tank pump. You should consider doing this, because you don't need to worry about a power source, and the pump alone is under $100.00.

like i said in the other thread. the aem isn't a very good piggyback and it's mated with a fuel system that isn't designed to be used.

As i suspected there is no 12v source from the aem like the SS box. The ss box has a user defined 12v aux pump source that turns on at 5000 rpm (at the base tune, can be altered to turn on other times).

Putting it on constant would screw a lot of things up.

If you want to cut corners and blow your engine then use a hobbs switch and set it to a certain PSI to supply 12v to the pump.

What I would do because i'd rather not pay thousands of dollars and the headache of blowign an engine: trash the vortech FMU, upgrade oem pump to walbro and get a basic return fuel system (400$). Without the FMU cranking the pressure up to 80psi (which is horrible) the OEM injectors will probably run out. The return fuel system has a 1:1 rising rate so it "may" have enough but in all honesty you can get 440cc injectors on the forums used for 200$ so i would upgrade them if you want a reliable car. You cut corners you pay for it.

The FMU has a 5/32 hose connected to the manifold pressure. The SS box has and an electrical power line to the Aux Fuel pump..Both are activated when under boost. The SS sends 12 v power to the Aux fuel pump and the FMU increases fuel to the Aux fuel pump a rate of about 8:1. The AUX fuel pump raises the fuel press to the to about 80 psi..If you have no power to the Aux fuel pump you get no pressure rise...

thanks for the answers, the fic has a 12v activated switch by rpm, for now i need to get the car running, im getting a walbro sometime next week. So should i wire the pump to that switch and run it like at 4500 5000 rpm?

That will work for a quick fix. Set it to supply 12v about 500 rpms before the area you see the a/f lean out.

I'm suspecting that the injectors will probably still run out nearing the higher rpms even with this aux pump though.

I would get an independent 12 v supply first and make sure the Aux pump comes on before screwing with the fic...
