Default Is it worth building an engine for a Vortech?

Getting a little bored with the amount of boost I'm currently running (11psi) @ 400whp / 350lb with a 3:33 pulley.

My tuner is not keen on running more boost with the stock motor.

If the motor is built, I'm not sure I can get anymore then around 460whp from my v3 Si Trim with supporting mods... I'd probably run some nitrous for good measure as well.

Financially, I have no interest in running twin turbo's on this car, so is the 60whp worth the money it will take for a build?

Let me know your thoughts...!

Just do the 2.87 pulley and add meth (420whp all day long). No point in building the motor for an si-trim Vortech. Keep in mind when building a motor you have about a 50/50 chance of having a positive experience. The stock block is mass produced by Nissan and should be good for years of enjoyment with a supercharger and a good tune. 11 psi with a 3.33 pulley? Do you have a stock exhaust and I assume catalytic converters? I'm quite surprised that you are making 400whp with the 3.33 pulley, you must have a freak of an engine or a very favorable dyno.

Dyno is a dynapack. I have a Inchiba Y-pipe, 5Zigen exhaust and the stock cats & headers are still in place.

The s/c i got has produced pretty good numbers. It was prev owned by one of the regulars on here and I think has been rebuilt.

My tuner would never say yes to a 2.87 pulley on stock motor. I have hope with the 3.13... not sure about meth, don't know much about it. You running it?

you can keep lowering the pulley til you hit about 400wheel trq. wheel hp doesnt matter much, esp with the vortech as that number is usually at redline. You dont spend alot of time at redline.

I think I know who's setup that was

UMMMM..... get cosworth or kinetix manifold + straight pipes + heads.... enjoy new feeling of power. also its cheap. dont build with a Vortech, not worth the money/hp gains.

ya, it's the tq that kills the motors not the hp.

truthfully the next jump up is a huge jump in cost. 10k+

Based on my car, the numbers are as follows:

3.33 pulley 400whp / 348lb
3.12 pulley 425whp / 360lb

From the prev owners car (not you! lol):

2.87 pulley 455whp / 380lb

______
Str8dum1; Has the blower been rebuilt? If so what did that rebuild consist of?

These are the results from the compression test done last October:

Cylinder 1: 184psi
Cylinder 2: 184psi
Cylinder 3: 180psi
Cylinder 4: 186psi
Cylinder 5: 185psi
Cylinder 6: 180psi

Compression I've read for this stock motor should be between 160 to 210psi.

Could have reduced since then.

As torque tends to kill motors more then bhp, the last map we ran on
this car last year with the same size pulley was producing an extra 25.2 hub bhp and 13.1lb/t with the cats on. Is this really that much different?

Thoughts??

After 4 engines, $30k+ and the car staying 26months in the shop in the last 3 years (its still there), the answer is NO.

Be happy with your 400whp, I know I will.

4 Stock engines of 4 built ones?

If it's the latter, I would be rather concerned at the competency of the builder. At what boost / trq did they let go?

very happy dyno numbers on that 3.33....have fun..run the 3.12 at least and get a good tune and call it a day..get on a dynojet or dynodynamics for some more realistic numbers..

Thanks...

Dynapack is measured at the hubs though. Surely no room for error like when running on a rolling road where you can get wheel slip???

im very aware..i can tell you from experience every dyno ive been on that has read high was a dynapack..I pulled 420whp on a dynojet and 435whp on a dynapack same day same setup within about 4 hours of each other...With my old car before the z had a similar experience and always always had lower readings on dynodynamics...i find dynojet to be a good true reading.....Im sure the car runs good but with that pulley and the mods u have listed the car is shy of 400whp unless thats a ported blower or something done to it..And shouldnt pull 11psi with only the 3.33 unless u are running different cog pulleys and arent aware or something or unless u are revving to the moon

Ray dont bother with a build for the SC, If you want power sell the SC and get a built block + Boosted performance mid mount single. Or the best option for you would be to see the zed and buy a single turbo supra!

Come out and play with me at some events mate and USE the 400whp and Im sure that will bring a smile back to your face!

pretty sure thats my old setup, i had it running at 17psi on a 2.87. 11psi on a 3.33 is not out of the question.

Hey Tim,

I have been playing with a few of my mates cars... and let me put it this way, my car is like the slowest (or one of)!

To name a few; GT-R, TTRS Modified, SL55 AMG Brabus, A3 1.8T stripped out with huge turbo, Evo 8 (700bhp), 335i remapped, 996 Turbo (with exhaust).

It all makes me quite sad...

Supra would be great if my brother didn't have one already. Having 2 in the house wouldn't be something I would want.

I run meth (50/50 water/meth), I pick up 20whp when I switch my meth injection on and switch to my meth map on my utec. You must have some different cog pulleys to be making that kind of boost. Are you able to eliminate your catalytic converters over there in the UK? I know the motorcycle guys do.

Not worth it at all. Unless you plan on ditching your vortech for turbos.

why does it matter what cars other people have?

if i wanted a supra i wouldn't care if every person in my family drove one, i'd still buy it.

you are also comparing a 15k$ car to 60-90k$ cars....your car will never stack up to a car 5-10 times the price.
