Is it worth building an engine for a Vortech?
Let me assure you that the A3 with over 170k on the clock is worth less then your shirt! LOL

Not sure I want all of the headache that comes with it though... hmm... The general consensus on here is to not go down the built route unless running turbo's, which is pretty much what I thought anyway...
Yeah that might be cool.... just having a lookey now, this one looks good:

I run meth (50/50 water/meth), I pick up 20whp when I switch my meth injection on and switch to my meth map on my utec. You must have some different cog pulleys to be making that kind of boost. Are you able to eliminate your catalytic converters over there in the UK? I know the motorcycle guys do.
Regarding the meth, tbh I don't know a whole lot about it, I've read that it's used to reduce temperatures. Didn't know you actually gain horsepower as a result? I'm guessing that relation is indirect?
thats very not normal..y would it be so high? are the cog pulleys setup different and he doesnt know what he is running? or ported blower or different impellar or something? normal stock vortech blower with the 3.33 shouldnt see anywhere near 11psi even with stock exhaust
well it could be worth it if you upgrade the supercharger on the vortech. Although for the most part it's probably not worth it. IMO get a pulley, full exhaust great tune with meth+water basic fuel system (top it off with some cams depending on what year your z is) and strip some weight add some good tires and you can keep up with most of those cars or beat them. And if you get a nice sounding exhaust you will sound better too. Talk to one of our vendors on here (motordyne) and take a look at their dual shockwave... sounds amazing! (heard a g with one and i was in loooove)

It's the power thing really. Can keep up with most of my mates cars on the lower end. Anything above 90mph and there becomes quite a considerable gap! lol.... I think on top-end it's probably the lack of torque that lets this motor down, but then also, that's what the stock motor can't take much more of! So stuck really!
Stripping some weight could be a potential option, let me know if there any any good threads on it. Will start doing some searches now. Please also elaborate on the meth + water suggestions you have?

No not really keen on blowing it buddy.
I've changed the pulley and remap to a 3:13 and am now running 443whp / 380lb (dynapack reading) with stock headers and cats. That's a +43whp and +30lb difference. Unfortunately though, my dw 600cc injectors are running at 90 - 95% duty cycle at their peak.
Car is much quicker then it used to be. Is it worth changing the cats to decats to release those precious few horses? Will I need to alter the map for this?
