Default Vortech S/C Belt Snapped - HELP!

On the way home last night, pushed the car a little and the s/c drive belt snapped. Took out the alternator and the power steering pump with it.

Had to get the car recovered, a long ordeal.... but it's safe at a local garage now.

I'm not sure the exact cause of this, but as the belt doesn't seem to be catching on anything, I can only assume the belt was too tight... This is the second belt the vortech has chewed through in under 5k miles (both belts came with the kit, size not stated on belt).

Can someone just confirm that the correct belt for a 3:13 pulley should be:

GATES K060930

I can't find a dealer in the UK for GATES belts so will have to get an equivalent brand (Micro-v XF), but if that is the correct size then I should be able to get something similar.

Slight mistake on the last post, there is a part number on the belt.

I have not measured the belt yet (snapped off makes it a little difficult), but the part number is attached in one of the pics. Appears to be a NAPA belt 25-060785.

My notes indicate the K 060930 fits the 3.12 pulley, however it might also fit the 3.33 with some additional tightening..

I just measured the belt that was on there below. It is 1990mm. The K060930 appears to be 2363mm. Surely that can't be right? Unless some of the length has chewed off in the process? Is this likely?

thats a 78.5" belt, hence the 785 as the last 3 digits. 78.5 inches = 1994mm

FWIW I was using the 060795 with the 2.87 pulley and now I'm using the 060790. The 060785 might be to tight for your setup.

If you break your belt again in the future, you can still drive a good 20 or so miles without the alternator.

Really? Sorry OT but you can drive the Z without a belt for a little bit, and the only issue is the battery?

Think I'm going to go for 060795 belt and see how I get on.

I will report back when the belt has been fitted, etc...

Guys,

Just as an FYI, the tensioner was fully tightened on the 060795 belt but it's still too loose for a 3.125 pulley.

Have decided to go down to 2005mm belt. Just so you lot are aware! This should do the trick!

Cheers.

Yes you won't have power steering or an alternator. The water pump is chain driven.

Its moot now, but its always a good idea to keep a spare serpentine belt in the car (or at least your old stock belt).

OP, hope you get up and running soon!

But I'm not sure what I'd do even if I did have a belt? How would I possibly be able to install it at the side of the road?

i always kept a 10mm, 12mm socket, 14mm open end wrench, my spare tire jack and a spare serp belt with me. Thats all you need to to do a belt swap on the side of the road.

I keep alot more tools and parts with my me now with my turbo setup. Most importantly, a fire extinguisher

i'm the same way. i use the owners manual bag to hold a bunch of tools and misc nuts/bolts.

a good idea is to cut a hole in your undertray directly below the belt tensioners to make it easy to change/tighten a belt on the fly.
