Default Vortech Setup Questions

Good Day Gentlemen,

I am new to the 350Z community but not new to F/I or Vortech's. About 3 years ago I helped a buddy of mine assemble a solid V3 Vortech setup on his stock 350Z. He wasn't sure exactly how to go about bettering his power output, so I suggested a Vortech. We ordered the "tuner" kit with a 3.12 pulley. Fuel was supplied by Deatschwerks 440cc injectors and a 255lph Walbro. He already had a FULL exhaust by Stillen using test pipes instead of HFC. A Turboxs UTEC with map sensor handled the tune. After the install, it was off to Mach V in Northern VA for a tune. They are a very respected shop in NOVA that specializes in Subaru's, but has plenty of experience with Z's.

Anyhow, the question(s) I have concern the fuel system and the UTEC. The last time we tuned, the injectors we're maxed IDC (340hp/290tq@10psi)....which was weird, cause I know I did the math right in selecting 440's. Then I see guys in here getting much closer to 400hp on the EXACT same setup. What I am I missing/overlooking? Any suggestions?

Mods at a glance:
Vortech V3 with 3.12 pulley
Turboxs UTEC with map sensor
Deatschwerks 440cc injectors
Walbro 255lph
Stillen ELH
Stillen test pipes
Stillen true dual exhaust

440s are way too small for 400whp with a supercharger. Shoulda went with 600s off the bat.

If he had a return system with raising rate FPR, you could bump base fuel pressure to flow more from those 440s, but if you want to make 400 with good headroom, get 600s

Hmmm, thats what I was thinking after seeing more of the data posted here.

Is the UTEC satisfactory? From what I am seeing the HALTECH is the way to go if you have the money.

So I'm thinking a FPR fuel kit with bigger 600cc injectors will be more than enough. I would like to go to the 2.87 with the GTM dual pulley mod/revised belt routing. I have a set of 3.9's ready to go in. Just waiting on an LSD; still reviewing different types.

*Clarification: I am buying the car now. The mods listed are current. I am trying to optimize the combination.

I used the UTEC with my vortech and loved it. It was soo simple to tune. haltech is way overkill and most of the features are turbo centric. 600s run out of pulse width around 500whp DJ, so you should be fine.

Swapping that old walbro 255 out for a new aeromotive 340lph will also gain you more headroom with a bump in fuel pressure as well.

Ok, I'll definatly look into the Aeromotive. Stock fuel lines are good to go then?

If you are still using the Vortech FMU/Aux fuel pump, it could be your limiting fuel issue..hiGH IDC. Dump them and go for a Stage 0 RFS...

No. At the time, I told him to buy the Tuner Kit. Its only using 440cc injectors with a 255lph Walbro for fuel mods.

Looking at your setup, its almost identical. What numbers are you getting?

str8's right. 600's, a fuel return, and an aeromotive should get a 3.12 higher numbers.

I don't know that an aeromotive is "required" but it's an awesome pump.

Also make sure you're not experiencing belt slip as that seems to be common problem with Vortech's and low numbers.

What all the others said you should have higher numbers than that. I made 391whp and I had stock exhaust. But I do have 600cc injectors and Osiris uprev. Deffinetly check for belt slip. And upgrade those injectors.

I was running stock fuel system with 550cc RC injectors and a Walbro 255lph high pressure pump, utec, HFCs, stillen exhaust and plenum spacer. I made 387rwhp on a dyno dynamics. 427rwhp with DJ correction. It was a pretty reliable setup. I miss it.
