Default Which triple pillar pod?

Question for you FI guys. The parts for my Vortech build are coming together. I'd like to know which triple pillar is best for the 350z?

1) Autometer
2) GlowShift
3) Intensepower

I was originally leaning towards Autometer but called them up to confirm that it is a full replacement pillar and they told me their piece mounts over the original pillar. What are you guys running and is it a full replacement? I'd like it to look as clean as possible. Thanks

I can't speak SPECIFICALLY to the 350Z triple pillar pod (have had one long enough....), but I can tell you that in two other cars I have owned with A-pillar pods, they create blind spots. Honestly, you should drive a car with the triple pod installed and make your decision getting one in the first place.

As for the makers: Glowshift is known for cheap gauges and fit over the original A-pillar. Intensepower states that their's fits over the A-pillar.

What color its your interior? I have a dual and it matches my interior trim very well, it also covers the factory piller. I'm gunna see if I can find the receipt for it.

What kind of gauges you gunna run?

My friend who owns an evo told me to stay away from glowshift, said their products are cheap...

I have a glowshift POD on my Z.

Their gauges are cheap and suck but the pod seems on par with any that I have ever seen.

All of the PODS I have ever seen are all just covers over the factory A Pillar (you will have to cut holes in your factory one )

Mine was supposed to fit over the OEM but it was too tight a fit... ended up removing the OEM piece completely and installing the pod in its place. A couple screws keep it in place. LOL.

I guess it's one of those things that "if it's not oem, you going to have to compromise on something." Or throw out the bones to get a one off custom piece done.

^ That is so cool!
How much more of a PitA (cost and man-hours) was that vs. a triple pod or other A-pillar installation?

Z1 Motorsports in ATL did the install but if I remember correctly it was around 10-12 hours of install time because it was a pretty major pain in the a$$. The circuit board controlling the top gauges needed to be carefully cut but my stock info gauge still works (for the most part).

Definitely more painful than the pillar but I can't stand the advertising, blind-spot and cheesy look that goes along with pillar mounts and the cubby still closes to be even more covert.

Also, CrawordZ makes powder coated cubby mounts for two 52mm gauges. I'm running one of those as well, only took about 2 hours for me to wire in my Defi's.

Random but are you in construction or engineering?

you sure can be a useful bastard sometimes..
I just called Crawfordz and im sad now.. he doesnt think he has them anymore.. ( cubby mount) and I just really didnt want to install this lame Glowshift single guage pod in my .. um.. hole... for my boost controller.

for what its worth OP... you can also run the ATI column mount, and i chose the stillen carbon fiber A pillar as well.

Ace, is that a toggle switch by the slip button?

Brian I've had three of them too. You're setup looks good though.

Cux, do you think you could make me something similar to replace the double din where the radio use to be?

probably. Would take some time. Would make it out of wood first and then move to aluminum or fiberglass/cf

The autometer pod is pretty clean after installed. I have one in my Z and am happy with it.

Alright, well if you're interested I'll let you know this weekend. I pulled my DVD player out because there was so much wiring I couldn't keep it clean.

I've got the two Defi Advance modules and my Cusco E-Con has two boxes as well. My cubby is full so I was thinking of mounting the displays there.

schweet! i got the alst crawfordz unit.. ships out tomorrow.
Thanks for the tip.. glad i saw this thread.

A couple other things..

i added turn signal leds at the far corners since i can never see when i leave mine on, and also my rest and warning lights for my ATI mount gauges.. these all reflect up into the windshield, very visible.

Also Ruthless, they make single din 3 guage mount strips.. if you were going to take out your deck, you could easily mod any these to fit more gauges in there using a standard 350z dash kit.
