Currently Working on my Greddy Twin Turbo build for my 03' 350z. I wanted to get some input on which EMS to use.
I know that it would be recommended to use a Haltech or F-Con Vpro EMS for a proper tune, but the shop I am working with is suggesting the AEM EMS. The reason they recommended the AEM over the Haltech is that their tuner works for AEM and actually helps build the EMS so he knows the system inside and out.
I know the AEM EMS is universal and not necessarily compatible or PnP with the 350z without some modifications. So my question is, should I go with a lesser EMS that might be more work to use, but the tune will be excellent coming from an actual AEM tuner? Or go with a haltech or F-Con Vpro that the shop tuner may not be completely familiar with?

What happens if you move out of the area will someone else be able to work with the AEM ems as easily as your current tuner if at all?
What happens if you need to go back to the stock EMS or something else would you have to rewire your harness?
How much support apart from the person you are dealing with is there for that ems in your current platform?
Personally I rather deal with something that the masses are using and proven if I have any questions or need to troubleshoot later on down the line.

I doubt I will ever move from California but I completely get your point.
I can still get the Haltech or F-Con VPro but should I worry about the tuner's ability to use other EMS?
The guy apparently heads AEM's EMS tuning so I figure he should be knowledgable enough to be able to work with other EMS.

in order for the AEM to work and especially take full advantage of your kit like intake cam timing. you will need to do modifications to the engine.
please tell me the name of the shop that is suggesting this. I used to live in Cali
PM if you like

Keep in mind Haltech has 2 options now - piggyback and full standalone. Both employ a very end user / tuner friendly interface. Your AEM tuner will have no trouble setting up a Haltech.

Also note that AEM has a brand new EMS in the works. Not sure if your tuner is recommending the new version or the old. A significant expense to consider will be a custom harness for your car if one does not exist, so be sure to check on that.
