Default Vortech Question

So my vortech kit had about 1800 miles on it so far with no problems at all. Its on a 05 touring non-revup. My VDC was off while i was doing some spirited driving tonight. My gas light was on but i got bored driving to the gas station. When doing a second gear pull the car would seem to stutter as soon as it hit around 6250 rpms. It did this twice. As soon as i filled up the gas tank the problem disappeared. Originally I though it was belt slippage until it went away, then I though it might have something to do with running out of fuel because their wasnt enough gas left in the tank. Now im thinking it might have just been wheel spin. What do you guys think it could be?

i know that when running out of fuel you start to spudder, thats all i do know from friends experiences; Ive never ran out of fuel. But since you say that fueling back up solved the issue im assuming its because you were low since your fuel pump has to pump more at higher rpms maybe it was grabbing some air along with the gas it was so low?

Yes, also I thought it was not a good idea to drive a car hard when very low on gas, not sure if that's true or not.

"I was running real low on gas"
"I pulled hard a couple times"
"Car stuttered"
"Put gas in it, car acted fine."

I'm not a genius or anything........................ but I'm thinking we have an answer here.

+1, don't let your tank get very low on fuel, particularly if you know you're gonna drive in maniac mode. gasoline is a liquid that moves around in the tank, especially when you floor it

The problem here is that you are having a fuel shortage, the pump resides in a basket in your fuel cell. the basket can not fill as fast as the pump is pumping out when your fuel demand goes up (higher rpm) therfore you will sputter since the basket is emptying faster then you can fill it, because the fuel level is low. This will happen less likely BUT STILL CAN HAPPEN when you are above 1/4.

If you read the vortech instructions you are suppose to drill a hole in your basket, so it always stayes flooded. you want to do this if you are in high rps for long periods of time and not full tank (gas level higher then basket). when you do this note to self that if you drop below 1/4 tank your car will go immedietly empty since the basket will drain itself back into the tank.

^ +1, i don't recall that from the vortech instructions. it sounds like the instructions for swapping out the stock pump for a walbro.
