Default Going Hx40 on VQ35HR what size Exhaust Housing?

going single Hx40 mid mount on my HR, can't decide what size A/R...

I want decent spool up prefered full boost around 4000...

I have GTR injectors and EXA pump oil return system, intercooler and etc..

going to have T4 flange welded to exhaust and slap the turbo on..

Only running 4 psi because of daily driver..

Supporting mods are :

Mishimoto radiator (installed)
Megan racing headers (in bed room looking pretty, exhaust wrapped)
Invidia Test pipes (installed)
HKS type catback (installed)

Im also going to throw a universal oil cooler at the same time so i can decide where to put intercooler first...

Anyways, going EMUSA ebay HX40 because they have a good rep and new they are about 350$.. Running wastegate pressure of 4 but I don't know what size I should go for A/R please let me know if anyone has any clue..

Much thanks,

JC

get ahold of username konrad he was running a hx40 on his old engine. but if your trying to only run 4 psi because of it being a daily then forget it and stop now. there are people who have blown at that low and there are those who have had no issues at 10 psi there is no such thing as safety simply a "when it blows"

expect to build down the road, time frame is unknown

Dont boot your car if you going to run only 4psi. I would just run 8psi. What options do they offer as far as AR??
A real holset is a T3 flange. I ran the emusa hx40 before and it spooled fairly good. It was a t3 flange. For stock block you should be ok with the biggest T3 AR they offer or T4 somewhere in the .86 AR range.
I'm not sure how much room there is under the HR transmission compared to the DE, but the Hx40 compressor cover is bugger then my 6766. I hope it fits

Thanks for the advice!

Maybe Ill step up and go 6 psi x)

T3 twin scroll with each test pipe running to one side would be ideal..

When did you have full boost?

Im not to worried about fitting the turbo, I should be ok x)

a 255 will be fine for stock block on pump whether you run 4 or 8psi. If you're going to run E85 you'll want something bigger

Good luck with build. Any reason why you are doing it this way besides the "saving" money part?

the hr is a pretty strong engine. Run 8 psi. 255 pump with gtr injectors should be more than enough. .86 ar maybe (i think thats a size )? just an opinion not very experienced with F.I.

I feel confident enough in my fabrication skills to do this,

If I can have a turbo kit tuned for under 2000-2500 I am a firm believer in diminishing returns in spending money and hard work pays off!

I'm also addicted to acceleration, and it has always gotten the best of me..

Its cost me 2 cars, I'm hoping I don't go crazy with this one... I love this car more than I could ever say...It is an amazing piece of machinery and I feel one with it whenever I get in..

When I treat her bad and jerk the wheel she lets me know by throwing out the rear, its a tricky relationship I tell you...I love this girl

even thought you already have the hx40 a better fit for stock block would have been the hx35 since the power goals are lower.

That being said i'm pretty sure holset has somehwere around a .68, .82, and .96 a/r housings like precision. With stock block and your power range the .68 or near it would get you the best spool and match your power for only running 6-8 psi. If you were pushing more power than that i would say .82 and for built block .96.

So stock block I would personally run in the .68 range.

jeff you have to remember holset are T3 NOT T4. Hence the reason I said to run something around .86 AR. the replica hx40 from ebay are now offered in T4 flange but I think its just the flange and the size of the turbine wheel and turbine housing is still T3 holset specs

You can't do a mid mount on the HR engine. There is no room/clearance for it. Search twin scroll...this the only location you will have enough room to do it.

good point. so it has the same size flange as a gt35 from a powerlab kit. I would run whatever those guys run then which i think is the .86 like Konrad mentioned.

I'm not familiar with Holset turbine housings and what A/R sizes they offer. However the three T3 housing options available for the GT35R used in ST kits for the VQ are .82 or 1.06 for the Garrett housings and 1.03 for the stainless steel Tial housing.
