Play between the cog pulley and jackshaft pulley?
Hey guys,
The pulley retaining bolts for the jackshaft and cog pulley came loose. I tightened them up last night but they loosened off a bit again today. I'm planning to locktite and re-torque these when I get off work.
I didn't install the jackshaft pulley myself the first time so I'm not sure if this is normal but there seems to be play between the jackshaft pulley and the cog pulley. It is true that it isnt fully torqued down but it seems odd to me so I wondered if anyone else had seen this when they were replacing their pulleys.

that's a lot of play. pop the serpentine & cog pulleys off and check the condition of the metal pins that lock the pulleys to the jackshaft. the loose bolt may have allowed those pins to be worn down.
ya i think so too.
I took a look at the pins, everything looks to be in ok shape? I even tried pushing the pins further in as they sit naturally nearest to the bolt, no change in the amount of play. Still, it is odd imo...
When I torqued it down it doesn't move, so potentially just keep an eye on it for the time being, what do you think?

all that powder on the cog pulley side doesn't look good...something is rubbing in there. check the surfaces where the cog pulley bears upon the jackshaft. if the bolt is loose, the pulley can wobble slightly, causing it to grind against the jackshaft.
i'm only mentioning all of this stuff because it happened to me. loose bolt, then noticing odd movement of the pulleys, then opening up the pulleys to find a bunch of dust in there.

Big c what did you do when you discovered that? Did replacing the cog pulley solve it?
