If you are serious. Click on z1 Motorsport and ask them. With 15k most likely 425ish to the wheel. Or ship it to jotech Motorsport.

What is the difference between reading each person's individual experience and having one sticky thread with only 1 person's opinion on which are the best parts? Personally, I would rather read all the threads on different builds and their outcomes instead of a person just typing a list of parts stating "i like these rods because blah blah" when they don't even use them. How can someone accurately say that 1 set of rods is better than another when most people on this forum haven't used multiple sets of rods. On top of that you can look at build fails on the forum to find out why and what parts failed (or if a shop did crappy work on the engine).

You need to be more specific in your topic then. Your OP doesn't say anything about "i have a 15k budget for engine parts alone". It just says "i saved 15k". In a forum where there are HUNDREDS of dreamers talking about "i'm building a 300mph Z with 10 grand" every other day it's very easy to get steam rolled with comments like that. Granted, you didn't know that because you are a new member but it happens every day and those of us on here a lot get tired of seeing it. So, yes, you had a valid question and goals but it sounded like just another dreamer 18 year old kid that is going to drive everyone nuts with pointless threads.

Look at some threads and maybe ask some specific questions of parts you are thinking about getting and see what the collective community thinks of those parts. Quite a few threads have discussed types of rods and pistons in great detail.

Where are these supras? I have quite a few friends in that area and there are quite a few members here in that area and haven't seen any decent supras (definitely not a mint OEM one) for near that price. I would be worried about the quality of a supra for under 20k. Also, the initial cost of the supra is just pennies compared to the outrageous price in aftermarket parts for them. That is where you get raped.

As for your questions. The best thing to do is contact a shop. If you have 15k you can easily get an assembled block at any of the reliable Z shops. Since you are in chicago I would suggest Sound Performance. Otherwise I would suggest Dynosty for a short block. For engine parts alone 15k is plenty. That would actually get you a fully assembled built engine ready to drop in. I would work with parts that the tuning shop recommends since they will be working with the car the most.

My last block was pauter rods and Arias ED pistons. This current block is a pre-assembled Dynosty block with CP pistons and eagle rods. Both have been quite reliable for my HP. My current hp is 652hp at 20psi with a Boosted Performance midmount 6765 turbo kit. I love my boosted performance kit. Simple install, amazing quality and a few grand cheaper than any other single turbo kit.

I think I would just keep the 15k and save up till GTR's become available a little cheaper, seems its going to be hard to build a car that keeps up with it and that will be as reliable as it is factory bone stock.

Just my .02.

The Z has great looks but performance comes at a price and if you have ever heard of the builders triangle, you know what I mean:

"fast, good, cheap : pick 2".

upgraded intercooler, exhaust, and a tune will get a GTR into the 10's. If you do e85 you will need just upgraded injectors and the previous mentioned stuff and you can get low 10's.

It's priced at 80k tho but hell, at least I'll have a badass car lol. Thanks everyone for the replies.

Also had an s13&s14 240sx too with an rb25 in the s14 and sr20 in the s13.
