Hey, no reason to get pissed off here. I'm simply stating my thoughts -- you can respect them or not.

Shame on Greddy for lying to everyone about the install time. I cannot help that, but I am sure that it will effect sales. By the way, I would like to think that your comments were not directed at me personally because that would be unprofessional. In case they were, I'm 30 (not in my 20's), a professional, have plenty of $ for the kit, install, and plenty of other things without going in debt for more than 30 days. I also plan on keeping the Z forever and have made a conscious decision to spend money on it.

I'm not getting pissed off at all...thats one thing that stinks about reading posts....its nearly impossible to tell the writer's attitude!

I know nothing about you - the comments I made were a generalization about what the typical customer is for such mods that's all....no offense intended whatsoever!

Good luck with the kit man...its bound to be fun

Default Install Costs

Greetigns to All,

Just to clarify, I had my TT installed by SP engineering (sp-power.com). The charged me $2800 for 28 Hours of labor to do the complete install, dyno, tuning and ect. When you look at what they had to do to get it installed, tested, gauges installed and dynoed. I do no feel bad about the price. Yes, it is a big number, but they did a lot of work.

Hey, I understand and agree Z-1. Emails and online postings do stink because it is nearly impossible to tell the writer's attitude. I'm not pissed off either. In fact, I plan on giving my installer some bonus $ for all his hard work and extra effort, not to mention the great deal he gave me. Also, I plan on getting the Stoptech big brake kit and some other things before summer. I will give this business to Dan because of his customer relations and fair treatment. I never want to offend anyone here either, so I opologize if I have.

Hey Yancy, I was up at GodSpeed on tuesday to order my kit. Your car is lookin good. Hope to see ya at some meets @ Milan this spring.

~$2500 Sounds about right. I have still not decided if I am going to install it myself, or have Dan do it. I guess it all depends on how big my wallet it feeling when it comes in.

Thanks Adam. Give me a call if you have any questions on your kits. Oh and make SURE you have 4 spacers for your injectors. They only gave me one and this also happenned to Tim at Auto Car Parts.

I wanna raise this back up. I innitially was looking into Single Turbo, but I guess from the research I've seen the way to go is twin, never the less. Since there are more out there and more experience.... How much would it cost to install a general twin turbo 4 years leter after this thread was started?

i used to charge 2500-3000 for install and tuning, depending on the details.

whoever was suggesting that install price should be related to retail price of the part, that is the most rediculous idea i have ever heard. you know you can get a single Arias piston for just over $100 bucks, think you could get it installed for about the same?

its time consuming as hell to put a TT kit on this car, and throw in an extra 4-5 hours if the installer is really going above and beyond to put in extra reliability... there is a lot of things that are not even suggested in the installation manual that IMHO are a must to take care of.

I agree, shop the install/quality not the price, some will low ball it to undercut other shops but don't let price be your only factor in your decision it could cost you more down the road.

oh most definately its about the quality.... I really wouldn't care about the price because when you go with an upgrade of this degree, you know there are many risk to take, but one I wouldn't want to take is just have an install in 15 hours just so I can get a low price. I want a good quality build and from what I see about 3k for one....... I just need to know how much to have when the time comes... tis' all....thanks folks!

We generally charge $2500 for a base TT kit install, but we pull the motor to do it correctly and go way above and beyond general install procedures and stand behind our wourk. You get what you pay for is very accurate in this case.We have had customers come to us,get a quote,go to XYZ shop cause our quote was to high and they wound up trailoring their car to our shop to fix all the screw ups that XYZ made. You purchased a $30,000+ car, why be chaep when it comes to installing something that can cause you many thousands of $$$ if not installed and tuned properly.
A Greddy TT kit installed and tuned from us is about $3000 labor, not including any extra add ons. Dont be sucked in by the shady hack shops willing to do it for less. If a shop makes a low ball deal, chances are 2 things are going on.
1) they are desperate for work, and there is usually a reason
2) your gonna get a low ESTIMATE, then get the ol' bend over final bill where your charged for shop towels, supplies, ect..

Go to a reputable shop and pay their price, theyll always stand behind their work.

+ 1 on this and for the people who want to try to install this kit themselves............well good luck cause it is a total pain in the *** with the engine in the car.It took 4 days for me to finish it up with some help.

As I said, Greddy told us, and just about everyone else, that install was 10-12 hours.......there is simply no way it can be done that quickly, even after you have done many of them.

I think the deterrent to the kit is frankly that its got an $8000 list price, excluding install...so you are talking 1/3 the price of the car once installation is factored in (excluding gauges, fuel system upgrades, etc etc.)....not a very wise financial move for a car such as this, though often times the people who buy these kits are not thinking longterm.....they simply want to be that guy on the boads with the Greddy TT kit"...internet racing is highly addictive you know! I am in the business of selling parts for cars, so I know what its like to want the newest and baddest out there. But at some point, economics has to play into the equation (tends to hapen more with our customers in their late twenties, though we have some younger who, while they could easily afford the kit, choose not to go into debt over it, or choose to put it off until they know if they are even planning to keep the car).

I would buy into your "learning time" theory if this was apart that weas destined to be installed over and over and over again (such as turbo upgrades on a WRX)...this is not one those parts, I I predict you will not see ANY twin turbo kit widely used on this car, simply due to the sheer cost involved.

Honestly it is what it is. I don't think people should compare the install time to the cost of the car. Because every car varies.. It's not easy to put a twin turbo kit in a Z33 and if people want to choose the cheapest route then more then likely they'll pay the next person another 2500$ to clean up the mess the last guy left just to get their car running right. So when an experienced shop says it'll be X amount because we've done it before it's better then when the cheapest shop says it'll be X amount because so and so says it'll be easy

I'm going no more than $1400 for tune and install of piggyback, gauges, timer, etc. I'm going to install my GReddy kit by myself, every mod that I have I done myself (Not including tints, and Subs), the most major being the flywheel and clutch. If I good enough to fix aircraft, than i do anything to my G35.

To do a TT install right the first time you will need (at minimum) the following:

(1) Greddy TT kit ( spark plugs, fuel pump etc) - $5,100(tt kit)
(2) Tuning - $1,500 (est)
(3) Intercooler - $1,325
(4) Engine management system ( ie Greddy, Utec ) - ???
(5) Engine management guages ( ie Defi, AEM) - $1,000
(6) upgraded clutch & flywheel (ie RPS ) - $1,500
(7) Greddy TT exhaust - $1,200
Total Estimated Cost: $12,000

You may also need to upgrade:
(a) Cooling system - especially if you live in a hot climate
radiator ( ie Koyo) - $450
oil cooler (ie Nismo, Stillen, ARC) - $300
power steering cooler ( ie Nismo, Stillens, ARC) - $200
Total Estimated Cost: $950

Note: Your TT kit should have all the associated hardware.
Hope this helps!!
