Default Vortech BPV compressor surge, likely cause?

Hi Guys,

I've recently started suffering from compressor surge, mainly when letting of the throttle from a medium pull. It doesn't sound so bad when letting off from WOT but its still there. When holding a constant throttle position when cruising it seems to flow constantly.
I've also noticed at idle that it sounds like the volume of air coming from the BPV has significantly reduced.

I have tried winding out the adjustment screw a turn at a time until I'm pretty much all the way out now. There has been a little improvement but its still not right.
Interestingly, even with the adjuster right out, it still drives and boosts fine other than 'fluttering' from the surge.

So being over in blighty, I have to order any replacement parts from your side of the pond.
I'm planning on dismantling it to take a look, but before I do, I wondered if anyone had any ideas on what the problem might be so I can get some parts ordered as its my daily drive.

I've notice the sintered bronze breather is not looking too pretty could that be the cause? or a split diaphragm maybe?

Thanks in advance for any help.

could have possible leak in the valve itself. By vortech bpv do you mean bpv made by vortech or (x) brand bpv with vortech sc?

Take the valve off and check for leaks in the diaphragm. Then check for leaks in the vac hose going to the valve.

It could also be the valve bouncing closed and open if there isn't proper vac or spring pressure during boost.
