Turbo Help
Hello ,I am currently doing a Frankenstein on my Z, but need some help. I am planning on doing my own custom turbo system on my Z ,now my question is will it work? I recently bought a turbonetics, 50 series single turbo . I have already make a custom
Y-pipe coming from both Stock Exhaust manifold turn to the driver side and up to where my stock air box use to go . I am currently waiting for the exhaust pipe from the exhaust manifold to the turbo flange to finish getting ceramic coated the size of the Y-pipe to the turbo flange is 2.5inch thick .I have also routed the down pipe down the vehicle, into a custom Y-pipe into my injen exhaust.
Soyoucould say that i have fabricated my own custom Y-pipe, nowmy question is that the distance from my exhaust manifold to the turbo is about 20 to 28 inches ,should i have any problems with a turbomounted so far away from the exhaust manifold???
thanks for all your help

Hot exaust gasses help push the turbine wheel. If you build the manifold properly, as in good design and a heat retaining material I think you would be fine. Take for example single large turbo setups that use collector type manifolds from both sides of the motor up to a large turbine wheel.
We are in the final testing process of a new single turbo system for the 350Z. we have been testing for past couple of months at various boost settings and injector sizes. We matched a single Ceramic Ball Bearing turbo with a 60-1 compressor utilizing a stage 5 big shaft turbine.
Complete system to include:
-60-1/Stg 5 Ceramic Ball Bearing Turbocharger
-Front mount 3.5"x7.9"x24" Spearco Intercooler
-External Evolution Wastegate
-Raptor By-Pass Valve
-6 new injectors
-fuel/ignition managment
-All stainless turbo mounting and piping from the manifolds to
the turbocharger+downpipe
-All aluminum boost tubing
Other than traction issues drivability has been outstanding, smooth idle and turbo lag in virtually un-noticable.
Looks like we will settle somwhere bewteen 6.5psi (363whp or 435chp) and 8.3psi (406whp or 487chp) our data was measured on our Dynopack wheel dyno with the stock exhaust system (rear section only, no cats).
Stay tuned...
