Default Vortech tuner kit quesions

I have read sentry65's thread about the Vortech V2-3 superchargers. I have been glued to these search forums/google for weeks searching for all the info I can get with my project.

2003 track model DE

Installed: DW 440cc injectors, Walbro 255 (with phunk's modification), DC-catback, Berk hfc's, motordyne 5/16 plenum spacer and 1 step colder iridium spark plugs.

Not installed but ordered:
Vortech tuner kit, 3.12 pulley/belt, AEM boost & A/F gauges

So here it goes as far as questions are concerned.

I have heard of people being just fine with using the stock maf. Some are using the UpRev GT maf. I have a local certified tuner here close to me (Salt Lake City) that will be dyno tuning it with the UpRev Osiris standard. Will I need the UpRev GT maf if my goal is to only get 350-400whp? Also, what do you do-it-at-home guys do as far as your own installs and start ups for testing belt tension/fuel leaks/vacuum leaks etc.? Is it ok or safe to start it once all is done and installed with absolutely no tune? I will be towing it to them, I just don't want to have my first initial start up to be at the tuner shop. Also, with only these mods, am I ok with no return fuel system? Any thoughts or concerns greatly appreciated.

With your setup and power goal…..
1. Stock MAF will work just fine.
2. No need for a Return Fuel System, But a CJM Stage 2 is a Very Nice addition
3. OK to Start to verify install, and is a good Idea before going to the tuner. it may or may not start easy with the larger injectors

I would say that you will need an upgraded MAF sensor for 400whp out of a supercharger. It will take more "air" to get you to that power at the wheels because the s/c will take about 20hp away just to make that boost pressure.

The S/C kit also uses OEM size (2.75") MAF sensor housing, so that will be limiting as well. All the turbo kits use a 3" charge pipe going to the TB, and this is where the MAF sensor is housed. With turbo kits you are already pushing the flow (voltage) limit of the OEM MAF sensor at 400whp. Going with an upgraded snesor gives you room to work with when tuning with UpRev and MAF sennsor, providing more safety as you are not maxing it out.

Thank you so much OldManZ350, just the answers I was looking for! I just wanted to ask to make sure. It seems that no matter how educated I get I always second guess my purchases and decisions/installs.
