Where to get the Crank position sensor signal??

1) I thought it would be less likely to set check engine codes.
2) Number of crank pulses per revolution varies between different systems. Most employ different numbers of missing teeth to identify TDC. Too many variables.
3) Nobody else was doing it this way when I designed it (early 2000).

The ECU is expecting to see the crank pulses spaced a certain number of degrees apart. Retarding individual cylinders using the crank signal will alter the number of degrees between some pulses, possibly setting misfire codes.
Retarding the timing across the board should not set codes, but I wanted to do individual cylinder retard.
Don't have enough feedback yet. The Maxima guys like it. Same ignition system, different tuning in the ECU.

The reason I ask is my friend put a perfect power SMT6 piggyback in his car about 12,000 miles ago..He gained 34 hp in the midrange and 18 peak..However he got a Check engine light and when he hooks it up to the OBD he gets a "multiple cylinder misfire code"....Any I deas as to why he gets this code? The car runs great and has for 11,000 miles with the light comming and going..What do you think may be the culprit??
Trending Topics
Does the SMT retard both the cam and crank signals? If just the crank signal, that might be enough to set the code, if it retards too far. I think the ECU likes to see the two signals within a certain range of each other.
The Apexi ITC (ignition timing controller) will often set codes on the Subaru, for this reason.

You have to be joking to post something like this, Right? gainning 34hp from an ecu alone? sorry man don't think so and I remember the original forum on this, it was a big joke. All his gains were from the plenium and other mods he did. I think when they compared a stock ecu with the same mods there was only a 2hp difference.

Here the link to their dynos..http://www.mrcmotorsportsllc.com/
The reason they didnt release it was the fact that on one car it kept setting codes..Probably cause of where they got the CPS signal to adjust the timing and the Factory ECU thinks there is a misfire so it throws a code...Car ran great but got the engine light on and off once and a while..http://www.mrcmotorsportsllc.com/af.htm Lookat this AF..You telling me you wont pick up hp from going that rich to a perfect 12.5???Then you obviously dont know too much about tuning man..

I will not judge it till i see a real non bias dyno from a member because there is something seriously wrong with those stock a/f and dynos last I looked at them (link not working) But to each ther own
Well I will post mine good or bad..I have nothing to gain or loose
I will be dropping my car off on friday...Weather permitting!!So we will see...As I recall all of the ECU's out there produce minimal HP anyway...Its the tuning for further mods that is the key..

please tell us all about tuning Daking.......and while you're at it, explain the principle behind gaining horsepower from making the AF richerdon't start flaming people that know what they're talking about.......as you've illustrated so well, there is definitely a shortage of them here

As far as tuning goes,You make comments yet can not even get your own car to run right and CRY about it for months...Obviously YOU have no clue whay your talking about cause I am not the one with the "UN-TUNEABLE DETONATION"
The Graph CLEARLY shows a very LEAN condition that was corrected bt the unit...The DYNO's dont lie!!!!Oh thats right,DYNO's are not acceptable forms of proving HP..Only timeslips are right??

So correct me if I am wrong, but you seem to be the one crying and flaming ATI for months now,yet can not find a reputable tuner....
Then you have the nerve to post all your communications with them on the internet,FLAME them, and expect them to help you..*sniffle sniffle*
But we all know who you learned YOUR tactics from...Posting confidential communications and personal gripes with a company on a public forum

So next time you or your pal call ATI and mention me, remind them who you are and how you have been instrumental in destroying their reputation by posting your un-substanciated stories all over this site...
I get nothing for free and need nothing for free I make enough money to pay all my bills and enjoy my hobby to the fullest...So really EJ,Grow up and take some responsability for your actions, get your car tuned by someone who knows what they are doing and STOP the CRYING!!!
Oh,And thank you for continuing this FLAME war and ensuring we all get BANNED....
