Default More rear end grip on boosted cars?

I have a problem with 1st and 2nd gear being useless.

The car has to much rear camber (-2-2.2 degrees) so I know I need a camber kit to help this but will that make enough difference?

The cars on 275/40/18's OEM VLSD and about 470rwhp similar torque.

I may be switching to togo R888 rear tires soon too.

you guys with mega power must have the answer! (PS.No DR's or drag tires)

Thanks for any tips people!

I would change out the diff and as you said camber adjustment. I also bout a 3.3 diff from a automatic which makes the gears longer but with anything below 600HP it will feel slow. Also as you said it's all about the tires R888 is a good start and you also have Nitto NT05R

Do you have personal experience with a new LSD vs the VLSD? Its not like one wheel spins it just leaves big "11's" on the road! Both wheels spin so I'm not sure how much benefit a diff will make?

Im not powerful enough for 3.3 gears I don't think so Im after more mechanical grip. What sore of camber specs are the guys with big power running? Also are there people out there running similar power who can stomp on it in 2nd and get grip??

you will really notice it in turns, it helps to pull you through it without losing grip. to me my launches are more planted, before i would start spinning and then catch traction, now i dont do that.

Falken FK452 summer tires on 9.5" rims. Sucks *** getting raped on the road by cars with half the power as I'm ether going no where due to TC cutting in killing power or huge wheel spin

My car handles quite good 600HP with 275 18" Toyo R888 GG tires. 2nd gear has full traction already.

Closer to OEM camber the better and remember with the added power you squat in boost and that throws it off even more. 275's will be cutting it close though unless it's a really soft read like the 888's. I have a difficult time with 275's (NT555) and 440whp, OEM camber spec. 1st gear useless, 2nd gear hooks only on hot days.

I'm running 275/40/18's on the stock 18x8" rim. You can squeeze a wider tire on a 9.5" rim if you don't mind the look.(though I'm only boosting 6psi, so I have enough grip)
If both your tires are spinning I don't think a better LSD is worth the money. I would just go wider tires, but downfall is more weight in the worst possible place.

As Trav says if you get a Quaife LSD you'll really notice the difference and I'd also go for wider wheels With Toyo R888's as they are pretty sticky. As with camber, you want whatever is going to give you the most of your tire on the road as big camber changes will less tire for traction.

Right guys,

Cheers for the replies!

My action plan for more grip is 275/40 R888 (new set) Camber arms and try and get -1 camber (if the tire fits under the arch as the R888 run very wide and square profile.

If thats not enough then I'm not sure which way to go ? LSD may not help and I would need a new set of rear wheels to run large tires with a higher offset.

I have a G35. On the rear I have 10.5" wheels with a 30 offset. I am running Toyo R888s, 305 width. I have about 1/8" - 1/4" clearance on the inside between the tires and the suspension with about -2 deg. of camber. My fenders are rolled, and slightly rubbed the inside of the fender once taking a fast corner on the track. If you take away your camber, you may be able to run slightly more offset.

If all you want is a fast straight driving car then sure go with -1.0° camber. I personally like going fast on turns as well and would recommend between -1.25° to -1.75° instead which I believe is the acceptable OEM range.

Actual OEM Camber settings:
Minimum: -1.75°
Normal: -1.25°
Maximum: -0.75°

The big difference will be the tires you'll be getting. Huge difference...

In my case... on my lowest setting (430whp/389tq @ just under 8lbs) I could roll my car into a spin on 3rd gear just by WOT. I had 285/30ZR20 Nitto Invo which did well till I got boost. I just recently went from the Invo to Michelin Pilot Super Sports 295/30ZR20 and wow... what a night and day difference in grip. Even brand new without breaking them in yet... the Michelin grip way more. I have yet to spin the tires on 3rd.

In your case, you're going from summer tires to Street-able Track tires... this combined with the camber adjustment should more than solve your grip issue.

LSD isn’t really going to help with 1st and 2nd gear grip, I’ve got a Cusco RS.

If you are planning to switch to Toyo R888. There is a set for sale on EBay's listing for $560 plus $40 shipping. I was going to jump on these, but I decide to run with the Nitto NT01 because it wears out about the same as Toyo RA1, but slightly faster than RA1 on track. You might get lucky offer $500 to see if the guy would sell.
