Sounds pretty good - you can pick up a new or used greddy IC which I would recommend as the kit was designed with that being a component no necessarily an alternate or unbranded IC.

You'll spend a few hundred dollars on replacing bits and pieces here and there but that'll be true for any 'used' kit you buy.

If you can snap a few pictures of the components it looks like there are a few greddy patrons that have checked into this thread and might be able to shed some light on the kit.

why is he hanging on to the intercooler? I would see if you can buy a nice aftermarket like a mishimoto or spearco for him in exchange for the greddy.

Please let us know if you find a decent alternative to the greddy intercooler. I need a replacement one.

If you keep the Haltech than you will not need to upgrade your MAF. Haltech tunes off intake manifold (absolute) pressure (MAP). But I believe the MAF is still used for charge air temp so you gotta keep it.

For just an intercooloer... you guys may want to check out Threadstone. They seem to make quality intercoolers.

haltech can tune using either a MAP sensor or MAF sensor.

Have you talked to treadstone? I have seen them do custom setups for Audis. I bet they may even know how to mod the endtanks to work with the Greddy.....

$2300-$2500 is a rip

If your friend is keeping the IC, then I'm guessing he'd probably also hold onto all the charge piping. When you buy the IC kit from Greddy, you're also buying all of the plumbing and not just the core. I recently switched over to the Greddy 20g kit, from the 18g's. A shop offered me the kit at a discount, but it didn't come with the IC. So I had to reuse the IC and piping from my 18g kit. I ended up getting another Greddy IC (just the core) from a buddy of mine, and am looking to sell my 18g kit. Its the entire kit now, along with the IC, but doesn't include the intercooler piping. It might be easier for you to have someone fab just the piping, rather then having to piece together the whole kit including the core. Along with being ALOT cheaper then what Greddy is asking for their intercooler kit. I'll sell you the kit for 2800. you can PM me if you have any questions.

The shop I go to said they would order it all for me and it'd be around 400 to make with the core and endtanks

I don't know ****, I'll be the first to admit -

everything I know I have either learned here (by searching and reading peoples threads) or by picking up a handful of books/manuals and taught myself.

I would suggest you do the same - google (or use the forum search button) to search your keywords and read up on everything you can.

That $400 seems like a good number, actually might be a good idea to have them weld-up as much as your IC piping and reduce the couplers you use .
