Default Turbo compression

I have to do some engine work, and I am just going to have it rebuilt I think, stainless rods and pistons and everything, getting the ready for boost while its done.
Once that is done I am going to boost it.
I am looking at the turbonetics kit (yes I know) but the Treadstone version seems to alleviate all the issues that the other, cheaper, kits have.
I'll probably run the 8.5lbs to start, but that got me thinking about changing the compression from 10 to 8 or 9, which I know I'd have to up the boost to compensate.
I couldn't find anywhere where someone had changed the compression and was boosted and what the results/thoughts were.
Thanks!

Should I change the compression, leave it stock, if I do change it what benefits do I really get out of it

For now 500hp would be great, later on this year might upgrade the turbo or change some other things to get a little higher.

On a build engine, it should be able to hold 500whp easily.

The problem is, when you turn up the boost. How much power do you want the end goal to be thats the REAL determination.

High compression isnt exactly idel for boost, but low compression means more lbs which means more heat which means reliability becomes an issue. It all depends on your end goal.

I think the 60 trim is only good for 500hp at 18psi, I think I would have to upgrade the turbo at that point to get any more, I still want it to be a street car for now, might turn it into a track car later but not for a few years.

Well chances are youll have to build the whole block either way. So you have 2 option, built it now and set on the power goal and compression.

Or built it up later only to waste more money. Thats up to you.

I'm already building it up, I just want to know if I should change the compression or not. I think the kit is designed to run on stock compression. However I don't mind tuning it and making more HP and/or extending engine life, I was thinking 8:5:1, is that going to be overly complicated to make work?
I'm not too worried about the heat, I have an aluminum radiator and low temperature thermostat, and I'll be water cooled as well.

Power will dictate what you do, but I will start by saying you didn't search very hard, almost all of us that are running high/er HP cars are running low compression motors. Mine for example is 8.8:1 when all bolted together and I'm running 600/600 at 19psi. There are literally TONS of options out there for piston and rod combos. comb the vendor section and you'll find em...

and just my .02, I wouldn't run the turbonetics kit, again cruise the vendor section and look for a BP (Boosted Performance) or an old Momentum kit or even a SOHO single kit, they are generally built around much better turbos... they are going to be more expensive but much better in the longevity and quality departments...

^ agree with all points. I selected standard 8.5:1 CP pistons.
