Default new to FI.. got questions

Do you guys feel safe w/ FI. What i mean by that is do you constantly worry about your motor going wrong? How much are you guys boosting? I would love to get F/I kit but im worried about all that stuff. I do not want/need a super high HP car but a nice decent amount of gain is what im looking for. I rather have a nice gain and a more safe motor than a whooping gain but an unstable motor. I want to sleep good at night =). Im thinking with the price i spent on a NA motor i can get F/I that does much better. So can anyone teach me a little. Thanks

Well read up on how FI really works. Thier is a slew of info on the web, or pickup Corky bells book "Maximum Boost"

For you I would suggest getting a supercharger setup and having a reputible shop install and tune it for you.

1. No, I don't constantly worry as long as all of my guages, fluids, belts etc are in spec. Things go wrong with cars. I would look into one that has warranty if this is your concern. I still find it hard to believe someone would warranty an engine for 3 years with a blower on it! How many miles are on your car?

2. Currently 9 PSI

3. You are smart to worry, but the homework is being done for you here as we type. I do not think it is the blower or Turbo that I would be concerned with, most put out between 5-7 PSI. I would research more into the aspects of timing and fule and air fuel. At 5 or even 7 PSI with the right timing and air and fuel and an engine tha doesn't run hot oil all the time (add an oil cooler) you could sleep very well at night and kick butt during the day on most of the V8's beside you

But as time go by and i read more then i will start catching up but as fr as initial setup and installation and F/I im in total blank hence im coming for you guys for help. What are the basics for me to know about SC'ing my car. What do i need to be looking out for.

Well you would buy lots of guages and after having it tuned learn to read them, they give you warnings. I am not a gear head either but I read the manual to know where to check for things like leaks in vacuum or oil, belts starting to shred and what the guages mean.

It definately is not a set it and forget setup, you have to check some things regularly but they are simple things once you learn it it is just like checking your oil. I would buy local from a good tuner that has done 350 Z's FI properly and sucesfully already, I wouldn't settle for anything less.
