I am considering doing a custom rear mount setup as well if its capable of putting down 600+.
I would rather do a single up front but front/mid mount setups currently cant keep the oem cats which is a hassle. Unfortunately here in Colorado they have emissions. Not sure what size turbo and hot/cold side piping would be best in these setups to have the turbo kick in at a reasonable rpm and still be able to put down good numbers.
^^ It's possible, but not reasonable for the cost.
Have you ever been in a 600whp car? Closest I've been was a 560whp/560wtq(at 2500rpm) 05 gt500. Felt like my gsx-r750. Spinning tires at 80mph is scary.
is this bc the volume of exhaust manifold & pipe between the engine and the turbo? Too much volume to make a decent pressure ratio? and/or that much intake track(volume) going from the rear of the car back to the front?
Remote set-ups are cheaper to do than putting the turbo in a cramped space. You can literally remote turbo almost any car in 2 days as long as you have all the parts and can weld.
My TN kit took two days to install, but I had to take it apart like 3 times. What a pita working in cramped spaces.
Ive had cars in the high 400's and it still just wasnt fast enough to get me excited. also the reason I sold the procharger. It was tapped out of potential and wasn't exciting to me, so I sold it because it was a huge letdown.
I am not saying I speed all the time, which honestly I rarely do if ever(let alone barely drive the car at all), but when I do want to feel some acceleration I want it to be fun and not disappointing.
The other easier option may be to just buy a vortech bracket and mount a v7 on it and do custom intercooler/piping.

what's your conclusion about exhaust & intake/charge pipe sizes and engine output?
not a straight foreward answer I'm afraid
exhaust size smaller bore helps gas velocity but obviously too small and it's a restriction which will limit power if you're looking at reasonable power levels say 450hp standard pipe size should just about be ok, too big and the volume in the system will cause more lag I went with 3"
as for the charge pipework from the turbo to the inlet originally I went with 2.5" but it was very tight running past the front suspension on the final version I went with 2.25" much easier to route and no loss in power I also had a large front mounted intercooler on mine and charge temps weren't much above air temperature
getting the right turbo is vital to a good rear mount setup exhaust gas temp therefore volume is so much lower than a standard setup that you have to size the turbine housing much smaller than you would normally match with a compressor
this shows how much I came down and it was so much better more responsive no loss in top end power
what kind of numbers did you make? and do you think these setups are capable of high numbers at all?
I heard of one making 550 with a gt35 turbo i think
never went near a dyno but if sts's claims were to be believed for their rear mount kits then at the 5-6psi I was running that would equate to 100+hp gain
at one point when I had a problem with the wastegate not opening it hit 11-12 psi also something to bear in mind is that rear mounts tend to have lower charge temperatures than conventional setups so the air is denser and they can make more power on less pressure
