I bought a 350z a few months ago and I’m new to the z community and would like to install a turbo I bought. Unfortunately I have no clue what else I need to buy in order to install the turbo and also other things I may need in order for my engine to be able to handle the turbo. (Here’s a pic of the turbo and my engine)

I don’t know what else I need in order to compete the rest of the kit

there are plenty of these types of threads so just search for them and read what others have done. Don’t reinvent anything, do what others have done with success.

The roasting that would of happened to this thread a decade ago though... miss those days lol. You have much to learn my Padawan.

 

Wellllllll wellllllll...... this begs the question: WHY would one buy a snail without the rest of the pieces or wait, no, that's fine, but why when one hasn't a clue what's needed? Credit card, internet/Facebook say "turbo good". End of the world.

OK dude, the turbo itself is only the tip of the proverbial iceberg.

Here's a FEW things to add to the build budget... Manifold upon which it's mounted. Intercooler to cool the now pressurized hot air. Wastegate to keep boost in check. Piping (lots of it to feed BOTH intakes on the HR), turbo lubrication/cooling system, exhaust system aft of the snail (down and out), proper tune for boost application, proper plugs, etc etc etc. As was mentioned above, read read read all you can get ahold of, particularly the experience in the threads listed. Then hone your fab skills for many an hour of fitting and install work. (Or pay several thousand having it all put together for you.) I've left out a ton of stuff but these general areas should give you an idea of what you're in for.

Let's not forget supporting mods.... Brakes. If you've got Brembo, great, upgrade the pads and rotors. (If you don't have Brembo, at least do the pads, rotors, MC brace, etc.) Suspension. Good tires, wheels optional but recommended. Cooling. And on and on.

You bought a turbo for $134... I'd guess you should figure on adding another $7k for a complete kit plus a few grand for supporting mods and throwing out the one-bill-and-a-third snail or put it in a shadow box for your wall.

Oh, and my opportunity to say it again (Twice in a year? Fun!).... Driving school before it all.
